  1. Dave Walker was breeding these by the thousands a few years ago. Not known them to be rare, I always thought they were available quite readily, but possibly they were back then.
  2. I assume it is as light as perspex? It was the saggability of perspex which stops me using it for lids but glass can be so heavy.
  3. Good for you!
  4. I thought the same as you Jude
  5. You aren't using a product like pH Up or pH Down are you? That forms fluffy stuff all over the place (or it did when I used it years ago).
  6. Anywhere you find one Shae! All a worth a look.
  7. I also have them around this way as I clean the sponge more often than the noodles so having it on top means I just pull it out, clean it, and put it back without having to romove the noodles first. I rinse the noodles every 2nd clean-out.
  8. The more the merrier Loopy.
  9. Pardon my ignorance but what is polycarbonate and where do you get the lids?
  10. It certainly is addictive agoh! Thanks for finally introducing yourself.
  11. I have noodles and sponge in my AquaClear. I put the noodles on the bottom with the sponge on top to keep them in place. When the filter gets blocked enough that the water tends to flow out the side bit (where it shouldn't) and/or the sponge lifts the lid off the top, I clean it out.
  12. I plan to use the other tank as a sump. By this I mean I will turn it into a large extra reservoir of water and make it a filter as well with baffles and filter media etc. This means the fish have a larger volume of water to live in and I will have a huge filter that reqires (hopefully) very little maintenance. I have been keeping fish for about 25 years now so I guess you could say I have caught the bug  I was the first member of this site (Cees used me as guinea pig) which is why I have the highest post count. I am also a moderator here and an executive member of the FNZAS (Federation of NZ Aquatic Societies) as I am editor of the NZ Aquarium World magazine, produced by the FNZAS.

Not a dickey bird Warren (or a fish)
  14. Because it is a small tank, I wouldn't add the shark. The pictus will grow to 11cm too. A school of tiger barbs would look good though.
  15. You can't get anywhere in 10 minutes in ChCh!
  16. I always use glass lids to keep water off the lights, stop evaporation, lessens condensation, keeps temperature better, stops animals and small children getting in and fish getting out.
  17. Thanks for that. Obviously abother fish shop to visit next time I am in ChCh. What is it about ChCh that attracts so many lfs? Not only that but they all seem to thrive!
  18. Trendy Pets? That's a new one on me. Is that the shop that used to be down Moorehouse by the old railway station?
  19. I think a lot depends on what sort of, and how many, fish you will be putting in it. I like those filters you mentioned.
  20. Hi and welcome VCH. I have a 4ft tank of Malawis and am negotiating price on a 6ft replacement, using the old 4ft as a sump. Lots of friendly people and information here so enjoy.

Well I can't I assume you mean they should be in the post with the message?
  22. Oh go on TC, wear the bells! Good luck with the meeting Marcel.
  23. Welcome treehugga

Here is a couple of males. See the pointy bit in the middle of the tails? Females don't have that. Their tails are round.
