Hi and welcome. Nelson has a club - Tasman Aquarium Club. Send an email or PM to AMAZONIAN in here as he is president. Yes, Marlborough and Tasman are hosting the next FNZAS conference next Queen's Birthday weekend in Nelson. Got the bus trip already planned I believe several of the Nelson members have large tanks.

Since you are in Wgtn, arrange a visit to billaney's place. He has made full mesh breeding traps and they work well.

Plus they can drop fry every 4 - 6 weeks (and don't need males for up to 12 months as they can store sperm). Adds up fast!

Depends on the size of the female and whether she is new at it or not. Can range from half a dozen to 80 or more.

Keep doing as you were Caper as it worked well for you. Me, I am lazy so don't clean them until I really really have to :lol: I have had a hang on the back filter with a thick coating of fuzz over the outflow lip. Didn't impede the flow so I didn't worry about it. It only got cleaned when the sponge got so full of crud it pushed the lid off the top of the filter case :roll:

No and maybe Some are bolder than others. Depends on how much plant is in the tank as the more safe they feel the more they will stay in the open when you appear.

Don't foget you don't have to clean the media until you notice a reasonable drop in the return flow of the water.

An Auckland member has been trying to get others to breed cardinals for some years now. Read the article mentioned and try it yourself

Clamped fins are a sign of stress. What size is the tank and how many fish in it (what sort?). They may have been fine up until now but fish grow. Are you now overstocked?

I have a Laguna pump in my pond and got it from The Water Garden in Blenheim Rd.

How long has the tank been set up? Have you done any tests for ammonia, nitrite or nitrate? Sounds like they are stressed.

14 - 18C is good but raise to 22C to breed them. Below 10C and they stop eating. A club member used to breed them here outside over summer. Gets too cold for them in winter though.

If you only have space for a 90cm tank I suggest you move house

I have had gouramis with no problems but gave up on the dwarf ones.

I always go to glaziers for glass or complete tanks. They don't have the markups that pet shops add to theirs. Added advantage they can make it to the exact size you want.

Another place would be farm supply places as they would be good farm dogs. Know any farmers you could ask if they know anyone wanting a pup?
