I looked it up on the work database for all meds available in NZ. It is not in it. Co trimoxazole is trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. This combination used to be called Apo-Sulfatrim and was deleted Nov 2004 but is also found in Trisul.

White and cloudy can be a bacterial bloom. Harmless but unsightly. I avoid doing too many water changes during summer months when the water table is low as I find it sets off a white bloom. That might just be our local water supply though :roll: Should clear again on its own hopefully.

I wondered about both but Tim has been making tanks for years so I doubt the silicone is a problem. I would not have thought the cycle to be that much upset as when the tank cracked they immediately transferred all quickly to a spare tank and the filter was up and running again very fast.

I feed mine raw cucumber, never blanched it either.

Herbivorous and omnivorous fish will eat an assortment of fruit and veg. Be aware of sprays though and wash it thoroughly. Tougher foods, like cabbage, need to be blanched first to break down the cellulose a bit or they can't digest it well. Oscars love bananas My BNs eat peas and cucumber Many fish like lettuce

Some of those swords are more delicate than they look and it doesn't take much of a nibble before they are holed

Not a new batch of food. The tank is my son's and his partner's. It cracked a couple of weeks ago so was totally replaced. All gravel etc was transferred over. They are very good at the regular water changes and gravel vac so I don't think it is buildup in gravel. Dena did a 40% water change last night and there have been no deaths since and all the fish look well but she said the others looked well up until they dropped dead too. :-? Alan I don't think Bactrim and amoxyl are the same thing. I can't find bactrim on my meds database (I am at work ) so perhaps it is no longer available. Amoxyl is penicillin. If the fish are still dying I will get a script for some amoxyl (one of the advantages of working for a GP) and see if that works. Am wary of adding meds to tanks though.

Doubt it. Fish fed same food as they have been for over 2 years. Mostly flake.

I understand a salt bath just irritates the fish causing it to increase production of its slime coat. I suppose the bugs drop off with the slime? :-?

Salt offers a rough surface (yes, mix it with some water) to work off well stuck on muck and kills off freshwater bugs. Rinse well afterwards.

Anyone who hasn't received theirs by the end of the week please let me know. You should have got yours by now Scuba Sam since the address I have is correct. I had 2 returned today :-? . Both retailers so I suspect one has closed but the other has me stumped! I will have to email them to find out what has happened. One is World of Water. It was addressed to their new shop in Te Rapa, Hamilton but had handwritten on it "NOT 362 Cambridge". Now, I didn't send it to Cambridge, nor did I address it to Cambridge, so who sent it there and who wrote on it? Why should I pay to post it again when it appears it was not delivered to the address on the front! :-?

Elbow grease. I use salt and a plastic scrubbing pad (not soap or disinfectant impregnated). An old credit card is good for removing solid dried algae.

Fish have been dying over past week (not my tank by the way). Both old and new fish over all species (community tank). Tank well established and not overstocked. Dead fish appear red on the undersides and look a little swollen. Ideas please - both on what it could be and appropriate treatment.

You can feed it to them as often as you want but you don't have to feed them cucumber at all if you don't want to. Just be wary of possible spray residue on the skins. Wash thoroughly.
