  1. My fish never liked tiger worms and I am told they have a bitter taste (not wanting to taste them and see) but see if your fish will eat them.

    I'm New!

Hi and welcome from another Caryl (even if the spelling differs)

    River rocks

They are good too as they have rounded edges with no sharp bits for fish to catch themselves on. Perhaps you would like to join the Marlborough Aquarium Club at their next meeting?

    Bloated

See if you can get it to eat some cokked, shelled pea. If not, check to see how to do an Epsom Salts bath.

    Bloated

Fish get bloated for more than just dropsy If it is just the stomach I would suggest digestive problems.

Not greywacke, can't remember what it is though
  7. That is a plant that grows bushier if pruned regularly.

    River rocks

Ones that are perfectly safe to put in your aquarium
  9. I agree with supasi. I have left my tropicals unfed for 2 weeks with no problems.
  10. Welcome. Whereabouts in top of the south are you?
  11. Anything that kills mice is OK with me

I do not consider my reply an attack. I was concerned for the fish. This person appeared to have done no research before buying animals totally dependent on that person for their life - which wasn't going to be a very long one I don't think. I explained why their choice was unsuitable for their tank and was prepared to give further advice once they explained the circumstances more fully. There were still too many for the tank mentioned, even if they were small, especially for a tank newly set up. A person should research their animal's requirements fully before purchasing any sort of pet. "It's just a fish so who cares" is too common these days.
  13. If you need something that doesn't take up too much time then I really think you should wait until you do have more time. When you buy an animal it is totally dependent on you for its food, companionship and good quality of life. If you don't have much time you will not be able to provide adequately for it. You also need to look long term. These reptiles live many years I believe. I assume you still live at home and go to school at the moment? What happens when you leave school, then home? Will you be able to find somewhere to live that allows pets? What if you decide to go overseas? Who will look after your pet? It isn't fair to expect your parents to do so (been there, done that!).
  14. I too go for the food being the cause, be it then upsetting the swim bladder or creating too much gas. If it doesn't seem to be related to food then I don't know what it could be since it only does it occasionally.
  15. If it is about physics it can't go in the fun section as physics isn't fun  (just kidding) If you love snakes so much you are going to have to move aren't you? I like them too but don't have a favourite as I don't know enough about individual species.

I do hope you are just pulling our leg. Silver dollars need about 100 more litres than you have - each. Rainbow sharks are territorial and will not tolerate another of the same species in their tank. They need about 200L. 2 bristlenoses would be good in a small tank like yours. Your red spot pleco is, I assume, a Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps . These grow up to 50cm and also need 250L or more. The only fishes in your list suitable for your tank size are a couple of the bristlenoses, the loach and and pantodon. Algae is going to be the least of your problems. Please rehome the majority ASAP, or buy a much larger tank.

    BN caves

I have a 4ft tank with 5 male BNs of various sizes, 2 females plus unknown numbers of BN fry. No caves. Never had a problem with them fighting.
  18. The breeding scheme is only for FNZAS members sorry. If you thought it seemed she was up the duff forever, think how she felt!!
  19. I was plagued with it in my African tank and gave up in the end, telling people it was supposed to look like that.

    Howdy

Hi Vinnie. If you are going local saltwater I hope you have a chiller for summer months (I am sure UH has a few occasionally)

Was it specifically for a fish pond or a general pool?
