When I had my goldfish in a bath they had no filtration, just plants. I didn't do water changes either, just topped it up as the water evaporated (which it did very quickly over summer). Fish lived and bred happily. I don't think you can put the minnows in with the paradise fish as they will be eaten? The water went very very green though and you could hardly see the fish but they didn't mind and it gave plenty for the fry to feed off. If you decide to add a filter, make sure the power is connected legally with the correct safety stuff added for outdoor use.

I meant to add that all the largest fish are dying first. There are a few fry in the pond so it is possible the raggedness is a result of spawning but doesn't explain so many deaths.

I have just had a lady ring with a problem. She set up a large pond about 4 months ago. It is lined with polythene, 400cm deep and about 30,000 litres. It had about 100 goldfish in it (largest was 8"). Recently they have been dying and she has lost 45 over 3 weeks. Their tails appear to be shredded. If it is finrot, is there some way to treat a pond that size that doesn't include medicating such a large volume of water? She has tested the pH and nitrites and both are good. There is a fine layer of pollen on the surface and she wondered if this was causing a problem. Fish are at the surface but not gasping (although that is probably normal at the moment as it is warm and sunny). There is a small fountain at one end and an overflow, so it has had plenty of fresh water into it over the past month thanks to our heavy rainfall. Sorry about the mix of imperial and metric but it is how she gave them to me 8) Any ideas please? They are off to Aussie tomorrow and she is concerned about more dying while they are away.

Only goldfish. Counted 56 the other day but there is about 70 in total I think. Hard to count them :lol:

The handling of that car is lousy but it goes well in a straight line. It doesn't like corners. We have seen that car "in the flesh" and talked to the owner. Very nice installation with a great V8 burble exhaust. In fact I have a number of up close photos of it. The train was in Blenheim on its way south.

I am an A-. One brother is a B- so even rarer still but my mum beats us both as she is an AB but not sure if she is a + or a - Brother used to get police escorts in the middle of the night when he lived in Wgtn and they needed his blood quickly after an accident or something. My blood type created problems when I had kids as I have the rhesus incompatibility factor :roll: 42% - O+ 35% - A+ 8% - B+ 7% - O- 5% - A- 1.7% - AB+ 1% - B- 0.3% - AB-

I think I will let my sig answer Ira :lol: I have been a blood donor for years. It is my way of giving back for all the surgery my son received over the years (although none required a blood transfusion as they just recirculated his blood during the heart surgeries then pumped it back in)

Even warmer today and the fish went nuts in the plants. Here they are in the love shack... I am sure there will be lots of fry arriving soon.

I chose the reddest I could find when I started and they bred more red ones There is a lot of colour variation in goldfish and I really like the dark reds. Have no interest in calicos or shubunkins.

We thoroughly enjoyed the first sunny day we have had for many weeks. We headed down the Kaikoura coast with the MX5 club. First we were held up by this... We then visited this... and enjoyed lunch here (the ugly big green thing wasn't with us :lol: )... then we admired the view we had a laugh at a roadsign got to play with the seals at Ohau Falls then had afternoon tea at The Store at Kekerengu A great way to spend the day. I thought that sort of algae was an indication of lack of oxygen and stagnation but not sure. Not sure if the straw treatment helps that type of algae either but worth a try.

Mine appears all by itself in a large bath and half a mussel float I have outside. I rarely feed them but, when I do, I sprinkle a little dried yeast. Some suggest dried blood or drop a little dried sheep poo, or grass clippings in.

I would separate it and keep it in as pristine water as possible and see if it healed on its own.

The water stays clear all by itself, much to my amazement since there is little surface plant yet (despite my efforts to grow some) and full sun (well hopefully one day we will get full sun again :-? ). It has a large pond filter plus the decks overhang the water by about 3 meters each end. It also has a small trickle of fresh water continually running into it from a ballcock.

It should have curled up and started to die within 24 hours of adding the E-mycin. It goes dark then browns and shreds. Keep vacuuming it out ASAP as it will foul the water as it dies.

I never thought of origins :roll: Hengeils aren't much different in size to neons so not sure what you could get that was smaller. Cherry barbs are about the same size.
