  2. Something must be irritating them and they are trying to rub it off. I would have thought you would see, if it was velvet, but hard to tell due to their colouring. I imagine it will be hard to anything on them! Google will lead you to many sites with good pic and symptoms charts as well as suggested treatments.
  3. Come on guys, tropicals are not easier than goldfish. The only difference between the two is the need for a heaterstat. Ira has a pathological hatred of goldfish by the way so he is biased. Your tank is too small for goldfish but not for the size they are at the moment. Goldfish in ponds are easier to look after than when they are in an aquarium so you can't really compare pond fish and their care with that of tank fish. As said, it sounds like you have done everything right and remove the carbon from the filter. Your readings may be good now but perhaps they weren't at the beginning and that caused the problems. pH doesn't matter as goldfish will tolerate a very wide range with no ill effects. Ammonia and nitrite should be 0 and nitrate will vary depending on your water source. It should be below 50ppm or preferably below 25ppm but this is not always possible as many have a high nitrate in their tap water.
  4. Do you belong to the Dunedin club? They have knowledgeable goldfish keepers and would be able to give you excellent help and advice.

    The What's Up? thread.

    Where's the pics???
  6. I'd stay away from buildings and trees
  7. I don't know enough about the two products to give an opinion. I would not use baking soda either. Too easy to end up with pH swings and it is better to have either too high or too low but consistent pH than one which goes up and down. Nothing wrong with slightly acidic. The plants will love it.

    New here.

Surely you have found a spare pool lying about doing nothing. It would be enhanced by some fish
  9. The Aquarium World is on hold until we hear from the clubs who are overdue. The magazine will definitely go out in Aug but it may be late August rather than the first week as is usual. I have the mailing list all sorted, apart from the missing clubs, so once we finally hear from them all (except AFA who have been in touch, thank you, and told us what the problem is and are doing their best to sort it) it will be all go! :bounce:
  10. Doesn't seem to be doing a thing so far &c:ry
  11. Sounds like you are doing all you can. I can't think what else to suggest except to say not to mix medications. Don't let the peas pollute the water. Remove all uneaten bits. Why are you trying to raise the pH?
  12. There is no club in the Coromandel. Are there quite a few fishkeepers in the area? Do you have local pet shops that sell fish? If you want to get a club off the ground we are happy to help in any way we can.
  13. I assume all the other fish are fine? How often has she had fry? Is she looking bloated at all, any redness about the anal area or gills? Is she still eating? Mollies seem to prefer a little salt in the tank so that might help. Not sure if 1tsp will do much though (although I have not looked up the amount suggested, this sounds way too little to me. See what you can find out about how much to add to the amount of water you have.)
  14. Hopefully it is not due to poor health. Perhaps the salt upset her and she will take a while to recover.
  15. They will alter colouring based on surroundings. If she is in a bare tank she will be paler than if she was on dark substrate.
  16. They can alter colour according to mood, health, or age and genetics.
  17. It appears AFA members will also miss out. Their list of names does not match the payment sent so far and they have not yet paid the club levy. As I wish to send numbers to the printers by Wednesday at the latest (and that is already a week later than the norm due to the tardy clubs), if payment has not been received in full then all of AFA will miss out on their August mag as we do not know who have paid and who have not. I assume they will have it sorted in time to receive the November edition! We seem to have problems every year with some clubs not getting the information in to us on time. All this information, and the capitations, should have been received by July 10th - that is 3 weeks ago! The other option is for everyone to get their magazines late because of these 4 clubs.
  18. Thank goodness for that. It is bad enough having to go to Facebook!
  19. For bruising and muscle problems. Better than Antiflamm apparently and very little, or no, smell - unlike other stuff like Deep Heat, Antiflamm etc.
  20. That appears to be so Sophia. They have it on special at my chemist at the moment so I will go and get some :happy2: It is apparently better than Antiflamm and won't stink of peppermint
  21. No idea as I do not belong to Twitter so can't see it. I am assuming that is it :dunno:
  22. Anyone know, offhand, if you can get arnica cream in the supermarket or do you have to go to a health shop or chemist?
  23. I think I read somewhere we were. I know we have a facebook page and I can see that but I do not belong to Twitter. What is the URL or whatever for the Twitter thing? Just want to update some contact info.
  24. Welcome back to the hobby and to The Fishroom. Note that we have a private trade and exchange section here for you to post your offerings. Make sure you read the rules first! 8)
