    The What's Up? thread.

Following close to the car in front on a motorway is just plain dangerous. You place a great deal of trust in a person you do not know to not have a heart attack at the wheel, and/or be sober. When they lose control or slam the brakes on, it's likely you that will ram into the back of them and can end up in a worse situation than them. Anyone who is a firefighter, cop or ambulance driver will say the same. The speed limit is the limit, not the target, and we are required to drive to the conditions. If someone wants to drive under the limit, yes they should not be in the inside lane, but it's not a crime to be there. I use the motorway a lot and I won't go in the inside lane if I'm not planning to drive at the speed limit, but there are still plenty of people who drive around me to go 120kph. I should be a policeman. :sage:
  4. I watched the loaches feeding tonight, I think the word is rambunctious. I put a piece of novotab in cave for Geoff the catfish and they poked at it and ignored him. He did try to sit on it a few times but they generally persisted and won. This got me to thinking that maybe I should swap them for some more corys but I will need to brew on that idea as I do like the loaches.

  6. look at this angry little guy getting checked by a vet http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/
  7. Yes i think they don't like fish that swim above them, it's as if they think it's a challenge.
  8. Mine aren't what I would call placid, they are pretty cheeky and very active. I see them nose-bumping the other fish and each other. I think they were a bit nippy when there was a bigger group but at present there are only 4. Saying this I had a group of pygmy cories that hid all the time, when everyone else's reports said they came out and swam in the current. There's always one tank that is an exception to the rule I guess.
  9. judging by LA's avatar, he won't be getting a haircut from him
  10. Penguins are cute. When I lived on Waiheke the ferry would plough through the middle of them while they were out doing their synchronised swimming routines. A little scarey but you'd see them floating about in the wake behind.
  11. so that's a net and a cellphone you need... anything else? :slfg:
  12. The switch went on mine and I had it replaced and it still goes fine. Haven't had any issues with it, but I haven't it for masonry lately.
  13. My peppered cories are fine with the dwarf chain loaches, and when I had pygmy cories I also didn't lose any to being picked off. I suspect they used to go for the dwarf rasbora though. The cories with the patch on their eye are loxozonus, I got them from someone who said they were rare, I've never seen them in the shops.
  14. ever seen my riverbed tank thread? :dnc1:
  15. :sml2: Once upon a time I got a no-name rotary tool from Placemakers for $20. I couldn't believe my luck, those things are normally expensive. But no I'm not selling it.
  16. Since 'Geoff' the catfish was raised on novo tabs I bought some to help him settle in. Yesterday after he went in the tank he wiggled about furiously nearby but didn't tough near the food. The loaches and smaller cories are pretty excitable at mealtimes so he probably isn't used to their loachy ways. Tonight I could see him inside the tunnel, just his tail and back, and he got all wiggly again inside the tunnel when I fed blood worms. Then I put half a tab down the back of the tank near where he was and he actually popped his head out that side a couple of times. I was very pleased to see even one of the otos had a go at the novo tab, that would be the first prepared food I've seen them eat. And in other news, I've put the 2 adult peppered cories in a little breeding tank to see if I can get some eggs. It seems a tall order since Adrienne couldn't get them to breed but I've seen them spawning once so I have hopes it will happen again.
  17. Oh I thought a chocolate zebra was another kind of pleco.... OK you can be a winner too
  18. I sold plenty of those. The rest got eaten without me :cry1:
  19. Fi5hguy wins. Yesterday L129 found the cave and hasn't been seen since. Or so he thinks. Since I rebuilt the cave after the house move it wouldn't go back together how it was before so there has ended up a larger hole at the back so I can see right through and spy on him.
  20. A couple of years ago AFA also joined Gilmours so we could purchase chocolate fish wholesale which we sold at Pet Expo. That has to be useful for something.
  21. Guess what this is 'People' who know are excluded from the competition...... click for the movie
  22. I agree that meetings for the sake of meetings are not interesting unless they have a purpose. Eating cake is a purpose. I think 'we' (" " since I haven't joined yet) should get through the joining process and then have an online meeting to write down the sort of things we want to do, and then decide how often we will do these things. I like simple stuff like seeing other people's tanks and pets, visiting LFS's without worrying about boring my husband. So in short - hurry up and sort out how we can join and then we can get started.
