  1. It's good, well thought out. If you haven't already, see the photos in my cory tank thread. On some of them you can see the difference in colour between the east coast sand and the silica when its all pushed next to the glass. While it isn't grey like the stones, there are beige and brownish stones in there that match the sand a bit and it's definitely darker than silica, brown like beach sand. I lightened mine with silica sand and now I'm trying to darken it again  Tomorrow is sand hunting day anyway.
  2. and towels blocking the gap between the door and the floor to prevent runners! :nilly:
  3. and therein lies the catch
  4. You could do crickets room by room with the doors shut, then they are contained at least.
  5. I see a corydora already snuffling up the sand :happy2:
  6. You guys aren't pulling your weight on this board if that kind of cuteness has been 'out there' already without you alerting me to it
  7. I have a sample coming in the mail so I will let you know what it's like, or post it on to you if you like. They say it's a finer grade of the black grit which means it's not sand but fine gravel, so may not be suitable for cories.
  8. after I scooped all the duckweed and riccia out of my tank the duckweed never came back. But I do get new bits of riccia floating about.
  9. My cories and loaches eat anything that gets to the bottom and the loaches will come up and get food that hasn't got there yet. Today was thawed brine shrimp. Usually they get a shrimp pellet or a hikari sinking wafer and/or worms or live food. Also live squashed snails are their new favourite.

  12. what sort of cat ? I will sit here waiting for photos till I fall asleep........
  13. you could get a dropper and see if it blows off the leaves, then you know for sure it's crap build up. I used to get it a fair bit on plants in front of the filter but not nearly so much any more.
  14. I will keep you posted, probably go there on Sat.
  15. I kept a couple of 25cm bags of river stones over if you want those, it might not be enough if you want the motherload though. Any Central Landscaping Supplies has them and they are cheap enough. On the weekend I am going to go there and ask for a sample of the Muriwai sand and see how it looks mixed with the white silica sand, and/or east coast to darken my tank up a bit. You are welcome to come and see what that looks like if you haven't sorted yours out first.
  16. Clowns will have to wait till I have a different tank then (read ANOTHER tank but don't tell the husband )
