  1. Hey David there are some great frog displays at Ti Point Reptile Park if you can be bothered driving out there. Those frogs look like they have a good life. You have to walk the whole track though, they are dotted in different places. Is $15 to get in for an adult.
  2. I think fenbendazole is easier to get than Droncit, it's brand name is Panacur and is generally sold as a worming liquid for horses and the like. I bought 200ml from a vet for $22 a year or so ago and it was way more than I needed, I think I used about 10ml in a 60cm tank to treat worms. I couldn't find any Droncit as they tend to use Drontal now as it has the other ingredients. I don't know if all vets are the same but that is what I was told when I rang a few places. I used the fenbendazole by soaking shrimp pellet in it and then feeding to the fish. It makes the water white and cloudy until it has dissipated.
  3. Fishy when you say condition them do you mean to feed them well? My fish get a variety of live food in the afternoon and usually a small dry food snack for breakfast. I think my fish have a good life, if not a bit spoilt and overfed. Does your group of gourami breed at all?
  4. last sand photo from me - top layer is black sand only. As you can see it's a dark gold brown.
  5. could sell tickets as a fundraiser?
  6. thanks Ice222 Fishybusiness, how much planting is in your honey gourami tank? Could you post a photo of your set up so I can see?
  7. a couple of photos in different light - it's clearly darker than the layers underneath but I am going to buy a bag of sand and get it a bit darker. I took a shot with some riverstones peeping through, you can see it blends pretty well at this colour. tank light on, camera flash off tank light off, camera flash on
  8. Hmmm a nice idea but $6 for a bag of sand is more appealing financially at present
  9. Under the lights it looks a bit lighter, more the colour of a pygmy's back now, before it was paler. It isn't sharp at all. I always thought it was smoother than the EC sand. In any case I recommend it.

    Sand

With sand you just use the gravel vac and wave it about over the sand to stir up the bottom layer of mulm and then suck it up. Or plant things along the front so you don't see so much crap. Also depends on the colour you use as to how much poop you can see laying around.
  11. at least you still accept that other cats will follow these, my husband is still in denial. BUT THERE WILL BE MORE
  12. here is the new sand colour. You can see a piece of silica with some mid brown right next to it (previous colour), the other lightish shade stuff is silica and east coast and the top layer is that + black sand. Possibly still not dark enough for me, will have to see if my rasbora get more colour now. Can't post a better picture as the water is too cloudy yet and still waiting for it to settle to make final decision. It's darker than it was, which is good. What I should have done is kept aside some black from my sample but I forgot.
  13. it would get shortened to Pee, and then PeePee
  14. Poppy and Polli are cute. Ely is a town I lived in once but is pronounced Eel-ie, which could be pertinent for you haha Not sure about naming animals after loved ones, when they die you will think of that person all over again and dredge up who knows what old stuff from the annals of your emotions :tears:
  15. Aww what a little sweety puss. She looks a little timid still, obviously not used to the paparazzi yet. Does she have a name yet? David is offering to catsit for you I think Stella
  16. haha I am trying to hypnotise you into posting more photos of your fish!
  17. Just thinking about what I will have next when my killies have gone to new homes... :dunno: I have always thought gourami were interesting and the dwarf have great colours. Could I have a pair of dwarf gourami or a pair/some sparkling gourami in my 33L planted tank? If I had them they would get a few dither fish as companions and/or an otto or 2 but the gourami would be the main event. Generally speaking, how would the gourami get on together in a smallish space, and would they breed millions of babies, and how often? I have read that they do have lots of fry so they may not be suitable for my low maintenance situation, I only have 1 and a half grow out tanks. thanks
  18. how about a poster of Mr T next to his tank to inspire him :happy1:
  19. It's good, leave it be for the plants to grow back in. 8)
  20. After much rinsing I have done some tests. There is a bag of sand 17cmx18cm in about 10L of water and so far it's 4ppm KH and the Ph is the same as my test sample from the cory tank. The cory tank water has 6ppm KH. The sand behaves like silica sand, it stays flat and smooth. You can see grains of black, gold and dark brown. I am going to taste it and see if I can detect any salt. Am going to leave it to sit overnight and retest it, then mix some with silica and/or EC sand to see if I can make the perfect colour. A bag of this stuff at Central landscaping is $6.10 and it's the same size bag as the river pebbles. I may have enough in my sample to darken up mine without needing to buy more too heehee Oh and I meant to say they also have big river pebbles, a few as big as my head, many fist sized and larger. I think you can also buy by the bag full or I'm sure they will let you buy only as many as you need. They do offer samples of everything too. EDIT - water in bucket doesn't taste at all of salt 8)
  21. got my sample and it's really a dark brown/grey with gold flecks in it, I think it could be good as the gold will make it not so dark. It's finer than the east coast sand and doesn't appear to have any shell in it. Have just got back from a morning out gallivanting in ridiculous traffic so will go and give it a good wash and see what it's like. Stand by for more info later on or tomorrow.
