  1. I would like to see a clearer pic too. Frenchy
  2. Coincidence more than anything. Filtration would only help clean the water more. Brown algae, usually occurs in relation to excess nutrient levels. If the tank is established check nitrate and phosphate levels. This algae dosen't need much light either. Avoid overfeeding and carry out the appropriate water changes, gravel and filter cleaning etc. Bleach is good to clean off algae, just soak coral in water with plenty of dechlorinator to be safe. 3. Why else would you clean your nets, gravel vacs, buckets.....? In the case of nets, it isn't like they sit in the tanks for a period of time. Unless its a bit different over there? We use our nets just to catch out fish here. Frenchy
  4. I do have a heap of pool salt. When I had a white spot outbreak in the display tank I used a heap of salt, warm-hot water & bucket. That much salt it all couldn't dissolve  Frenchy
  5. I don't either. I do leave my buckets outside in the sun to dry out. I hang the gravel vac, tubes & nets on a hook in the yard. Then again it is a case of what you bring into your tanks. Mine african set up is settled. I never do anything on the discus tank & african tanks in the same day. Frenchy
  6. You won't really know about how their growth is affected until you throw them in the bigger tank. Frenchy

    Chilly

I had a heater die on me here, temp dropped to 21. Lucky I am not in NZ, my white calvus babies probably would of died. It was bad enough they were pretty listless, faded colour. Frenchy
  8. The thing with gill & skin flukes they are different. Treatment can vary. Could just be the start of white spot, which is possible with the colder weather. The water change, salt & raise temp is a good start. Make sure you have plenty of airation too. Frenchy
  9. Just a bacterial bloom, I would say. Got this from a previous post. Posted back in 05. Search google for bacterial bloom, 2nd one on the list. Frenchy
  10. They shouldn't be far from breeding. At that size it is hard to tell. Females may start to show orange colour in the body. Males fins may be slighly longer, pointy tips. Frenchy
  11. Rainbows, archer fish. I have used both these species with american cichlids. Frenchy
  12. Nice shot. They are coming along very nicely. Frenchy
  13. Can happen from fighting, eating something to hard.... Frenchy
  14. If the mouth itself is wide open & no other fish is affected. Do you think the fish in question could have a dislocated jaw? Frenchy
  15. I had problems with a jebo 819, then a seal went as well, its gone. I have a fluval 405 touch wood, never had a problem. Frenchy
  16. Buy a few more, spread the aggression. Frenchy
  17. I agree, great shots. Very nice. Frenchy
  18. What do you want to clean? It is just algae, then bristlenose catties will do the trick. Just wtch how you introduce if you have a raised ph. Frenchy
  19. That does sound good. I have seen traps in books. I go the same way as Wilson & Eric. Take down 1/2 the tank, I use one big net 15inch, use a smaller net to herd them. Frenchy
  20. Good see you have settled in well Shell. Sounds like you are having fun up there. One reef tank, is a great start....MTS going to set in again? Whites are not very common, up your way, very rare  When you set up a tangy tank let me know, I will throw you some whites cheap. If you come across any be careful, few dodgy cross breeds about, always ask for pics of the parents first. As for fronnies, specific variants can be sourced. Frenchy
  21. Very nice. Be good to see both discus & fronnie tank when you are finished. Frenchy
  22. Thats it for all we know the eggs might be infertile. Frenchy
  23. Treat the tank. The white spots you mention can be nematodes. The medicine will treat that. I would dose, 30% water change in 3 days. Re dose, water change in 3 days & re dose again. 3 treatments should do it. Chances are your bacteria will be affected, your major concern is treating the fish. Yes still feed fish. As above, treat whole tank. Frenchy
  24. I would use the wunder cure if that is all the ingredients as listed. The fish definitely have gill flukes. The white on the lips is a concern too. If the white is over a bigger area it could be cause by a parasite, if it just white colour on the lips, then I would guess columnaris.{Bacterial infection} A pic would be great. No point separating the fish, all fish on the tank will be carry the parasite now. Frenchy
