  1. Same goes for anything mechanical, we have AG100s at work, we each have our own, mine was a complete mess when we got here but over the months I've rebuilt it and kept it maintained, it's now the sweetest runner of the fleet. Even something as simple as a wash and splash some oil around makes a big difference.
  2. Ok thanks Repto, I will probably take Smidey's advice and visit Waipapa chainsaws today, it seems to me that chainsaws are like outboard motors, risky business buying them second hand, and I don't like the idea of buying one unviewed off TM.
  3. Thanks for the replies, just talking to a mate and and he said the same, seems a Stihl or Husky is the way to go, off to TM I go...
  4. Would love a husky or Stihl but the price is tad steep atm. Looking for something middle ground, reasonable quality for a reasonable price, around 40 - 50cc, 16 - 18 inch bar. Bro in-law has a little 39cc Ryobi which I used today, Revved really quite high and cut blue gum rounds as easily as the bosses 50cc Stihl. Wanting to steer clear of the cheaper Chinese brands, as I feel chainsaws are one of those machines that need to be good quality. Can anyone recommend a good middle ground brand? Thanks
  5. Yup, have just finished cleaning out tank and the seal along the back has let go  . So that is the project for this week. Peel the old silicon off and redo along the inside back wall and probably the sides and front as well to be sure. Will go down to the local river on Carlos' days off and try and find a nice piece of driftwood to stick back in there when its finished drying.
  6. Yeah, a bummer that would have been allright . I got the fish out and put them in the AR620, when Carlos got home for breakfast I was busy siphoning the water out with the help of Shea (2 year old) who was watering the driveway. I can't seem to find any cracks anywhere, but until I have cleaned out the tank properly and fill it with water again to find out where it is coming from it will sit on the lawn. The cochus and ottos seem okay :bounce: , at least we had a spare tank to chuck them in.
  7. Aquarium keepers worse nightmare this morning, Siran came down at 6am this morning and the carpet in front of the Amazon tank was wet, and she could hear a drip drip drip, about 3 inches of water gone. Looks like a crack in the bottom. Not sure if the bottom of these tanks can be repaired, will find out tonight when I get a chance to look. If not, we'll be looking for a 300+ ltr tank and stand, We should be able to ship from Aucks or even the Waikato. If any one has something around that size in these areas that they're looking to sell, please PM us, thanks.
  8. We've had trouble finding any up here. Our LPS says they're not on their lists and cannot get them. But Animates and Hollywoods in Auckland have them....go figure.
  9. Some cool stuff there, particularly liked the Planet Earth/ Malawi lake feature, almost makes me want to start a African Cichlid tank ........ almost.
  10. We have just recently got a spiney peacock eel and he is still settling in, he is about 10cm long. I (Siran) have named him Monty and he is quite the character. I am feeding him bloodworms at the moment and he is eating them out of my fingers now, still shy though. I tried him on brineshrimp when we first got him and wasn't that impressed, so have stuck with the bloodworms for now. Here are a couple of pics that I have been able to get.
  11. Heh, even with all those muscles I could work the dude into the ground!
  12. Yes and they have no knowledge what so ever, Siran ordered some Cochu's a few weeks ago and when she picked them up they were pale and stressed to the max. We're hoping to remedy that situation, watch this space. ---->SPACE<----
  13. What the?.....Does this mean I can change my avatar to a pic of my unimpressive skinny 60kg bony body? If I tense hard enough I can even get a slight outline of pecks? what'd ya say?
  14. We've also tried to generate a bit of interest but not had any luck, our fish site members seem to be fairly spread out and no one seems to what to make any long term commitments. Give us a PM if you'd like to try something, I'm a dairy farmer working on a large farm so my time is very limited too.
  15. Okay so I have Googled Striped Raphael Catfish and have come up with Platydoras Costatus (Chocolate talking catfish) and they are available in NZ. Thanks for the help. Would someone be able to answer the other question as to whether they have noticed their chocolate talking catfish eating snails? It says they do, but would like someone to confirm it if possible. Thanks
  16. So, our SA biotope has been over run by MTS and we don't want to use the snail rid because a) its not good for the fish and b) it doesn't work. We googled SA fish that eat snails and it came up with the Striped Raphael Catfish as one of them, one of the common names for it on Google was the chocolate talking catfish, is this one and the same talking catfish we can get here? and if it is what are people's experiences with them eating snails? Thanks
  17. Just like people, animals can have a bad day, they're not always going to be happy and friendly towards strangers or strange dogs. Our dog Poppy is very well socialized with other dogs but have a strange dog (especially a bitch) come into her territory and she will be actively aggressive towards it, not because she's a bad dog but because she's a dog and it's what they do. She has to be introduced to the dog first in a neutral area, spend some time sniffing and deciding if she likes the dog and then usually she'll let them come in. Think about it, if some strange dude just rocked into your house and started jumping all over your couch and drinking out of your toilet you'd be pretty mifffed too yeah? I guess what I'm getting at is no dog is going to be so passive that you can do anything to or around it and it won't respond negatively. When strangers come on to your property they have to accept that that the dogs first impulse will be to protect it's territory and it's pack and any negative behavior from them will generally cause the dog to respond negatively in turn. So if someone brings a strange dog into your dog's territory and your dog attacks it is it really your dogs fault or the visitors fault for not adhering to, or understanding basic dog behavior?
  18. Not all small dogs are aggressive, our Dachshund/corgi cross is a sweet natured wee thing and about as aggressive as a daisy.

  20. if it's off the beach it should sink fairly readily on it's own, within a few short weeks. But I've found some really cool pieces off the farm under trees and half buried that never sink, even after several years, I finally resined the last one to a large rock, that fixed the bugger.
  21. The Mayans never said the world was going to end or even that something bad was going to happen, it's just the end of the 13th baktun, a special anniversary of creation. The apocalypse is a Christian invention.....nuff said.
