  1. The whole point I was trying to make is over all a lot of the newer music (mainly the Folk Genres) I'm hearing (not on the radio but on youtube) is of a high quality and easily matches the old school sounds in both lyrical and instrumental skill. Not that all new music is all good, I would totally agree that most stuff you hear on Classic hits and the edge, the mainstream in other words, is utter drivel and smacks of $$$ making. The likes of Ben Howard on the other hand is nothing short of a musical genius and I could seriously listen to him all day and night and not tire of him, every song is a journey, every time I hear a song again It just gets better and better. And that's the type of artist that has been missing for the last decade of so. Case in point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tln8kYSJd4&feature=fvst
  2. Aye, Metalica, Nirvana, pearl jam and sound garden just sound loud and obnoxious to me now, where once apoun a time it was all I listened to.
  3. That's it Fruju, we're never ever getting back together.....like ever
  4. Heh??? that's the stupidest thing I've ever read. What's the point of posting on a public forum if people can't understand you? It's hard enough to get your point over without unintentionally rubbing people up the wrong way. You might as well write in a diary...
  5. Mumfords, Ben Howard, Aloe Blacc, Avalanche city, Missy Higgins, Liam Finn, Luke Thompson, Dave Mathews, Florence and the Machine, Jason Mraz........ there's heaps of good newer stuff, real quality sounds but as you say, each to his own.
  6. Has anyone noticed that in the last few years music has been getting better and better, and of late has been of exceptionally high quality? For a music lover like myself it's been like Christmas day every time I sit down in front of YouTube. For a decade and a half or so this has not been the case, everywhere I turned my poor little ears were assaulted by Hip hop and boom boom, or some dork screaming until they wanted to detach themselves in an effort to escape the horror of it all. I locked myself away like an old man with my tatty old albums, peering out of the dusty windows from time to time, only to mutter "rubbish" or "get a real job hippy!" then slammed the rotten net curtains back in place and turned Led Zeppelin up again. Then one fine day a few years ago, while I was rocking in my faithful old chair with my old green cardigan on, a new sound penetrated the confines of my self made prison, (Jack Johnson) It was a cheerful bubbly acoustic sound, like water bubbling from a brook or the hearty giggles of young children. I lifted my head and listened, my god I thought, what is that.... and behold, it was the resurgence of folk rock! But unlike a lot of genres over the years it hasn't come blasting onto the music scene boosting "Here I am and you're all gonna love me!" Nope, Folk rock just quietly flowed in, just one quality song after another, catching the attention of people with real musical taste, influencing all our young musicians and teaching them that music isn't just about sex appeal or drugs and drinking or having a good time, it's also just about the share pleasure of music, of letting the melody get inside of you. But to my amazement, other old genres heard and replied, Motown lifted it's fuzzy Affro head. smiled a cheeky grin and sent us Aloe Blacc, a man who seems to excrete coolness from every pore of his body, but it looks like he's time traveled straight out of the '70s. I've even pulled my old dust guitar out again (happens every few years) maybe this time I'll learn to play some of this great stuff.

  12. Hi all, we have been in Auckland for the last few days and on the way home we dropped into HFF for a look, we where quite early but the fulla that was there kindly let us in. We'd already decided to get a new spiny peacock eel before hand so when we found the tank we pointed out who we wanted and never bothered to look at him after he went into the bag (neatly ignoring the sign on the tank telling us to closely inspect the fish as there would be no refunds, which is fair enough) but once we got him home and into his new tank we discovered he was all bumpy, almost like he's swallowed a heap of peas. They're all along the length of his body, and he seems to be all stiff and bent over, almost like an arthritic old man. Other than that he seems fine, swimming around and inspecting his new digs. Has anyone heard of these symptoms before, or what it might be? Thanks
  13. Introducing Cassie, she's 8mths old and lovely. Luckily she's past that full on lab puppy stage, but still oozes everywhere and all over everyone with big lanky puppy feet.
