  1. If you don't mind the drive you're more than welcome to come up to Kerikeri and milk in our shed, I'm only 2IC but I'm sure the share milker wouldn't mind......especially if you bring some bourbons
  2. Don't worry, David hated TV and movie's and vowed he'd never sell the rights, a good thing too as I don't think I could see my favourite series disembowelled (and not in a funny way either) by a non fan director. Here's hoping his children honour his wishes and don't give in to the sound of tinkling coin............then again we could always ask Silk to negotiate the details, that'd destroy the hollywood bank balance.
  3. Ours was 850 last month and on closer inspection we discovered that ours and the cows sheds ICP numbers had been mixed up and we were paying to milk the cows, got that sorted asap.
  4. My work college gives me a hard time constantly about it, he's a hunter and fisher and just can't understand what I see in little fishies. I personally can't understand what's weird about it, to recreate an aquatic environment from the Congo or Asia or South America is a fascinating hobby as far as I'm concerned.
  5. We purchased two kribs today from a tank full of them, taking our time we easily found a female but the male took a bit more time to be sure, anyways after we got them home and transferred them we realised the female had a hugely distended belly and was probably egg laden, we've added a clay pot for her to lay them but are wondering what is going to happen with the male who is unlikely to be the father or her mate. Will they fight or will he try to eat the fry when they hatch?
  6. You may find and angel will nip the betta's tail fins, the red ones do look a bit like blood worms. :slfg:
  7. Starting to feel the calving season bite , 9 dropped so far, days are getting longer, start in the dark and finish in the dark. On the plus side the new heifers are nice and quiet in the shed and are easy to train, which is a relief as when we first got here they were nutters, running all over the place when we fed out. Had to get the vet to cut a calf out of a heifer yesterday, she's got a touch of paralysis and we're having to stand her a couple hours a day, but she'll recover. We employed a young(very) fulla a few weeks ago and he's struggling a bit, seems to have real trouble listening to and absorbing instructions(though I think this is a young male trait as our 15yo is as bad) both myself and the manager are trying very hard to be patient and understanding, but as things get busier and more stressful that may become an issue, I've yet to decide if he's going to make it but we'll see. I bought a new bike for work today, an AG200, looking forward to having my own bike again, it gets delivered tonight so that'll be fun....
  8. It is a legal requirement to fence off water ways and keep stock out off them, though from my experience it's fairly hard to police and many farmers fail to mention that they have areas where stock can enter creeks and swamps etc.
  9. I'm a fan and yes I agree, these movies suffer from the same problems as any good book/movie translation. All the little details are missing, and I still get grumpy at all the little changes they make that seem unnecessary. I guess you really have to treat them as two separate mediums. Once I see the last HP movie I can then look forward to The Hobbit :bounce:
  10. Looking good so far, could you give us an idea on how much this wee set up has cost you so far, for us marine virgins who might be interested on a small set up like yours some day in the future? Thanks dude.
  11. We've moved along with the 2IC from our last farm to a new one just up the road. The last few weeks I've noticed a large piece of basalt standing on it's end in one of the paddocks not far from our house, then one day I was coming up the road and noticed a sign pointing in the direction of the stone that reads "This is the site where Arthur, son of Rev tailor died in 1840" I decided to do a little searching on the net and found this. http://www.northernadvocate.co.nz/local/news/nzs-oldest-pakeha-memorial-recognised/3775735/. Think I might wander over there and sow new clover around the base....I thought this was kinda cool!!
  12. I just read on Yahoo that the NZ warning has been cancelled..
  13. (edit) Actually it does seem to have the weak tea tannin colouration as well as the cloudiness.
  14. Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread jgreenslade89 but I have a cloudy water question as well. Have just set up our 280ltr from scratch 4 days ago, have added stresszyme, and ferts (Flourish etc) Filtration is a Eheim 2215 and the standard Aquaone trickle filter which is currently not working as the impeller needs replacing (on order, expect it Monday or Tuesday). Heavily planted, only unusual thing we've done is add natural detritus we obtained from the local river (was washed thoroughly to remove mud and silt). After filling with water (clean bore water from the farm) we noticed a cloudiness to it that we weren't concerned about at first, but 4 days later and it hasn't changed. It doesn't look like poor filtration, it's not dirty looking, just cloudy like ammonia (can ammonia levels be high from the moment you fill the tank?) As yet have not done any tests ( A little busy last few days, will get on to it today at some stage) Anyone have any ideas off the top of their head? Ammonia? maybe the ph has dropped so low because of the detritus it's physically clouded the water?? (I hope it's not that because the detritus looks so cool and natural looking) Cheers.
  15. Thanks Skip, Yeah I know the one, It was there yesterday but is gone now, I think it was quite costly. *I need to accept the fact that this is not going to be a cheep exercise!!*
  16. After a quick telephone call to BOC, they tell us that you can hire a 6.8KG CO2 cylinder for $14 per month + GST, and $40 + GST to fill it....have yet to decide if that's worth it.
  17. Sounds like intelligent advice Alan, thanks. My guess would be you need to take the fire extinguisher in to be converted professionally?, where exactly would you go?, who does that type of thing? And can you buy a simple manifold so you can inject several tanks at once off the same regulator? or do you need to purchase a double reg system? Or at the end of the day is it better to just purchase a proper complete system from the LFS?
  18. Can you just buy and fit a valve for the regulator that just screws into the extinguisher or do you have to fluff around with it, also could you use a used 5kg LPG bottle? Possible poisoning the water with LPG? can you flush them out?
  19. He did one on one of the rift lakes, it's fantastic, though I only saw a part of the American version with Segorny Weaver, would love to see it again.
  20. Bull sharks in rivers, apparently you get them in the Waikato river..............
  21. Just wondering whether demand feeding vs regimental makes a difference with sleep patterns.......
  22. Could be colic, if you're holding her, putting pressure on her tummy it may be easing the pain. Things to look out for when eating while breast feeding are, Onions, cucumber, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, brussel sprouts, relish, pickles or anything similar that taints. If not she could just be a little bugger like our 2 year was, he only ever cat napped day and night 10 or 15 mins at a time and drove us up the wall, really nothing you can do but work through it, nine weeks is still very young, just keep persevering and things will get better.......eventually. Just wait till teething comes along..............
  23. Berenstein bears Franklin the turtle Lynley Dodd's Apple tree compilation (especially Dragon in a wagon) Mouse on the moon Tyrannosaurus drip The Magic hat No problem Kiss goodnight Sam Anything by Roald Dahl.....James and the giant peach, The BFG, The terrible twins, Charlie and the chocolate factory (More for older kids) I avoid anything by Dr Seuss like the plague....they're long, boring and quite difficult to read some times...
