  1. One only two of the BTs are mine. I got the other two for someone else. Was pretty cool having 4 for a few hours though!
  2. Bah. Got another edison fitting today, and a 15W compact. all mounted up nicely. But then i got thinking... this is one for the experts out there... I want to run my 50w moonlight lamp on a thermostat, 24/7 (for nighttime viewing and heat) Then run a 10x11'' heatmat under the astroturf (will this work, and is it safe, especially as tunneling under the turf is one of her fave pastimes) Then with my compact for UV. I want to run my moonlight bulb but dont want 3 bloomin light fittings in the tank (main heat, UV, Moonlight) thoughts? THe moonlight lamp can hold the temperature in the area of the tank, just doesnt put out the concerntrated heat directly below it like the ceramic emmiters or spotlights do.
  3. Its a bit difficult, especially with a glass enclosure. Beyond my skill im afraid. Just got a glass lid (thanks Barrie) so that should keep some heat in. How does a heatmat effectively work though with a raised basking area? To use one would i have to ditch the basking tile, and run a heatmat before the astroturf (though she likes going under it) and then just have a compact UV hanging at that end? so instead of having a basking area right under the heat, it would be just a warm end with UV? Oh and I check my temps daily as the repta thermostat doesnt seem to be perfect.
  4. Haha. look at my comment just below her right foot... she'd just left a big mess (and a huge puddle) right in front of my keyboard!
  5. Cool, so id better switch to a compact and ill save this light hood for my next bluey enclosure which ill get made at only 300 overall height Thanks Alan
  6. This is my concern. Look how ive had to mount the heatlamp cage, and look how the light hood sits. not much UV gets onto the basking area probably. Hence my idea at mounting a compact right next to the heat lamp. Can lizards get UV from computer screens?
  7. Yeah im wondering whether to switch to a compact directly over the basking area rather than the whole enclosure being lit - that way they associate the light with the heat and encourage them to bask more?
  8. Question - how long do these things generally last? Do they wear out like light bulbs or do they need replacing after a certain amount of time? and im also thinking of changing to a compact UV alongside my heatlamp at the basking end, rather than a 90cm UV tube spanning the entire tank (120 long) Thoughts?
  9. I took them from your tanks. Foreground to the left needs something. if my small crypts arrive sometime this year they might go there, failing that, tenelus
  10. bog-standard java moss!
  11. Updated pics. Put in some baby crypts; petchi and becketti. Still waiting for my other crypts from oregans Might be putting some tenelus tenelus in the foreground too. Got a red whiptail last week. and my rio salinas corys are in (they are sooo tiny, 1cm) and a blue veiltail fighter (after a deltatail but couldnt get any)
  12. My idea for the rock is similar to this, i think it looks great, especially when it grows out some more
  13. I am the moss master.
  14. I used to have an aquaclear powerhead with the quickfilter attachement filled with filter wool to polish, and yes it means cleaning intervals on the main filter an be stretched somewhat and i suppose longer cleaning intervals on an fx5 are a good thing, less handling of that impellor the better (i broke one the other day, $168 rrp for a new one)! But yeah, powerhead was great, adds good circulation too. I have mine going for $60 at the moment, almost new if anyone is interested.
  15. Nah, cleaning out an fx5 is a doddle, i mean, even in a well stocked tank, it doesnt take that long to unplug it, pull the baskets out and give everything a quick wash once per month. thats how often i did mine, and then id do a really thorough clean (pipes, impellor etc..) quarterly.
  16. Thats awesome. how about jamming tiny little bits of moss in a heap of those nice little holes on the rocks?
  17. Yep all males. And i grabbed some from north shore yesterday too, all males.
  18. I should be getting one of her brothers next week. Anyone got any ideas to improve the setup for two BTs? boy and girl, about 5 months old. Was wondering whether to ditch the basking tile (takes up a lotta room) get some more driftwood and caves in there. And also considering changing to pine bedding substrate (cheap as from work) Also some different levels? I could get creative and make up some stuff with wood. Now im between a rock and a hard place of either keeping it a doddle to maintain and clean (and it is!!) and having it look aesethically pleasing... Im using a proper ceramic heat emitter now with a thermostat too. I have it on 24/7 (used to have the heat turn off at night on a timer) - wondering what the best method here is - the constant heat prevents brumation and keeps them active, but in a years time if i wanted to look at breeding, its better to let them brumate? I dunno... she seems happy at the moment.
  19. but then i need co2, and the tank will be overgrown within like a week of trimming (due to the small height) In this size tank id say its only worth going higher tech for plants that dont grow as tall or as crazily... ie. glosso
  20. Nah want to keep it low-tech Less hassle that way (and expense!)
  21. Its ridiculous. 5 years ago in the UK i had a connection fast enough that its comparible to NZ connections nowadays, and there was no such thing as limits - my PC was on 24/7 downloading movies, games, music etc..
  22. Batteries ran out after one shot But here we go:
