  1. haha, not at my store though! i even shun the use of things such as melafix. and dont get me started on ammo lock!
  2. Its a genuine accessory available for Hagen Aquaclear powerheads. costs less than $20 from memory and fits to the bottom of the powerhead. I have it on a timer, working 12 hours a day, to do the cleanup during the day, and off at night to lessen the current in the tank. See top right corner of tank: I also use the FX5 polishing pads, cut to size. more effective than filter wool and lasts longer (more durable)
  3. Erm carbon removes chemical impurities out of the water, water polishing is the term used to finely filter the water 'Polishing pads' commercially available for some filters are a really dense high PPM grade kinda wool, they do a better job at filtering, but hence clog quicker. The quick filter attachement is good as it takes 5 mins to remove, clean, and put back in, whearas changing a fine filter pad in a canister can take a fair bit longer sometimes. Very very effective. increases maintenance intervals of my fx5
  4. Our young beardie who is 8 weeks eats mealworms bigger than his head no problem.
  5. and that some people think that buying a product will solve all their problems and reduce the need for maintenance
  6. If in doubt, 50% water change! I have a lot of customers who seem to like the idea of buying a product to solve their problems, they kinda look bamboozled when I tell them they shouldnt spend money today and to go home and change half their water... and Trav, I have a master test kit that I dont need. throw me $20 and its yours.
  7. Get a power head bro. I have an AC70 powerhead with a quick filter attachment (for water polishing) that creates my surface movement, and pumps 1800lph. works a charm, means I can have my fx5 blowing toward the bottom. Im selling it if ya keen, really good piece of kit.
  8. I agree. Fraser, you can buy my two bits of large driftwood with anubias if you like?
  9. They will eat when they are hungry. starve them for a month if needbe. The younger dats (and other fish) will take new food more readily, and thus encouraging the bigger and fussier ones. I had all mine crazy for cichlid gold and hikari carnivore sticks.
  10. Yeah just go with a siphon overflow box. A glass specialist could no-doubt try it, but it wouldnt be their responsbility at all if it breaks... lol
  11. Thanks for the input. Ive only started stocking them recently, so this is good feedback
  12. Yes... Dont forget its 12v though rather than 240v. The 50w puts out 225 microwatts/cm2 at 20cm distance of UVA and UVB. is that decent?
  13. Maybe for the original cost (these units are around $130 for a 50w), but they are compact, run cool, and efficient (50w is equivalent to a 150w conventional heatlamp) id still probably run a standard reptile light tube with one though..
  14. I bought a tom tom one 140. The most basic one. $198 from jb hifi. Easy to use, easy to update. shows heaps of info, including things such as the speed limit at your current location etc etc..
  15. Those reptile one fan heater things actually are quite good. Though i would like an expert to try one out! I setup a beardie at work in a brand new enclosure (reptile one pro 90), with the 50w fan light at one end. daytime temps at the warm end sit at around 35C, and the cooler end sits at 28-30. Due to the nature of the enclosure (doesnt allow much heat escape) I turn the heat lamp off overnight. The beardie is looking much better nowadays

    Pictus Catfish

Bobo has my old one. hope its doing well. You just have to be careful when netting them. their barbs get caught 50% of the time.
  17. Get an FX5... turn down the flow. Huuge capacity - you could go easily twice as long as the others mentioned without cleaning. and then youd also have a suitable filter for your next upgrade. well worth the investment IMHO.
  18. I did ask him to name a price... that failed.
  19. Nice. how are my old dats doing?
  20. Get in the queue guys! I want henwards ones too... hes got enough, surely he can spare just one

    DISCUS KEEPERS!

I keep mine at 28C, black fine gravel, lots of current, and feeding a combination of bloodworms and tetramins colourbits. Temp is at 28 rather than 30 as i dont think the tank mates would appreciate it that much.
  22. I have some sens to go in it too!
