  1. Keep in mind when you are designing it, that a lot of people give up on the moss wall in the end because their fish somehow get behind the mesh and get stuck. Also gunk builds up behind it. I don't know whether Joefish's idea will work (whether the corkboard will not rot) but it might be worth a try.
  2. There are several things wrong with a pxt: - images are poor quality (even on the best phones) - you have to view them on a tiny screen - they cost money to send - most people don't take vacation photos with a phone - it wouldn't be a practical way to view a whole album Their only useful application is if you happen to catch something funny in the moment...
  3. Can't show pictures over the phone.
  4. Tell your grandaughter not to send you messages through applications becuase you don't want to add any. Ask her to simply post a message onto your wall to keep it simple.
  5. I also had a peaceful one at first, then he started trying to kill everyfish that passed him. He ended up in isolation permanently.
  6. Flourish and Flourish Excel are completely different products. Flourish is a fertilizer, Flourish Excel is Co2. They both come in different sizes.
  7. In my experience I also feed the live bbs as soon as they hatch, but I would put the left overs in a cup into the fridge. This was because I would harvest them from the setup at the lab in uni so I didn't have a running hatchery at home. The bbs placed in the fridge would die in a few hours but because its cold, they would not rot for about 1-2 days. You can tell from their smell the minute they start rotting... Anyways, the fry would take to the dead bbs shrimp from the fridge just as well. Since you plan to run a hatchery anyways, I would freeze your left over bbs because you never know, a batch might fail one night and you wont' have food the next day so its a good backup. I feed decap currently and it works as well but you need to pre-soak it for about 10 minutes because it expands...i wouldn't recommend putting it into an autofeeder. Another thing you might want to consider is that light coloured and albino discus have a harder time raising fry because they don't have a lot or any dark pigments. When the fry become free-swimming they are attracted to dark shapes...Thus these parents might have a hard time keeping the fry from spreading around the tank and even going towards your other discus. I think you really need to place your pair in a seperate tank (with no dark objects or background in it) with the fry so that they have the best chance.
  8. Ok...than as others have said, you might not have a male and female. Have you seen them spawning? Check whether the 2nd fish ('male') is fertilizing the eggs, or just laying some more. Other problems might be that the pair is new to this and haven't quite gotten the hang of it OR maybe they are trying to lay in a current and the milt is being carried away before it can fertilize the eggs OR maybe all the eggs are just going fungusy really quickly.
  9. Do you mean they are laying infertile eggs or they just refuse to spawn?
  10. Pfft... I know HOW to drive! Lol. I am just nervous about driving in my bf's car because it's had a $3000 film put on it! Oi! I cannot be blamed for my typos! My fingers are stiff from the cold!
  11. Most people have a sneaky back-up system with big-ticket items where they have their friends bump up the price for them. That way they will never let the item go for less then its worth to them.
  12. Its just about creating a buzz around the auction which will hopefully trigger a bidding war at the end.
  13. I think I have convinced my bf to drive up with me (or at least take his car myself) and i might be bringing a friend who is new to fishkeeping. But if it all falls through...then I might be calling you in a panic Thanks for the offer! I will try to bring extra TimTams for pheonix just incase. He is holding my whiptails for me after all!
  14. Maid of the Mist!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: You do get pretty wet Looks awesome smidey, can't wait to go myself!
  15. I am coming! Gotta grab my cute little whiptails Can't wait!
  16. Oooh exciting! Congrats
  17. I would recommend electric blue rams. They really pop will colour and are peaceful with other fish. Males will fight for territory with other male rams, but once they establish it, they will get along well.
  18. Any reason why the 3x 2ft tanks are only 2 high? Can you make them 3 high? That would give you at least 3 more tanks! Maybe you can put 4-6x 1ft fry tanks up there! Would you be able to line al lthe walls with styrofoam?
  19. I think mine might be bristlenoses... But I keep trying desperately to change that.
  20. True...unless you are aiming to keep it at a low or high pH.
  21. Do you live in Wellington by any chance? I have a CT male that I'd be willing to rehome.
  22. Remember that the vast amount of your good bacteria is not actually suspended in the water. It grows on surfaces live your gravel, ornaments and filter...hence the importance of increasing the surface area in your filter. As Ira said 25% is good. Remember that not changing too much water is for the benefit of the fish having stable parameters (pH, temperature...etc), not for the bacteria. I would do this change about twice a week at the moment so that ammonia doesn't get a chance to build, but once your bacteria colony grows once a week (or even once every 2 weeks) will be sufficient providing there are no mistakes with over feeding. Remember to never rinse your filter media under tap water (this will kill your bacteria), instead clean it in a bucket of water fro myour tank.
