  1. Sent you a message from my work email! Cheers, Milena
  2. 'Big daddy' didn't make it I found him dead this morning. The other 4 are happy-as though.
  3. Thanks everyone! He's taken a turn for the better! I came home pretty stressed because my bf said he was head down beside the log but still breathing the same. It was a pretty tight spot so I made the decision to pull him out. I turned the lights off and gently pulled on his tail (i know that sounds harsh but there wasn't a way to squeeze my hand in otherwise) and then guided him out to a more open area where the other discus were. He came right all of a sudden and started swimming normally with them! He stayed like that for a couple hours! He is now near the top a bit but is doing much better.
  4. Dwarf cichlids. Your wife would love electric blue rams
  5. I've been separating them from the eggs since I got them. But now that I've run out of room I may let them have a go. Both pairs are laying but the white ones do a better job of it so far. When they were in my friend's tank still, the white pair managed to raise the fry to free swimming. Most of the fry were lost to starvation and the filter though. But the parents kept herding the ones that were left The eggs that I collected across several spawnings have had a good survivial rate though. The hardest part is to convince them to start eating. But once they do they grow pretty quick. The biggest of the fry army are now almost 2cm! I've got a mix of angel fry and blue ram fry in a 40L tank. Will have to move them to a bigger one soon! I will post pics maybe tonight.
  6. You are welcome anytime! You can visit your angels (as I have them now) and their little army of babies too
  7. Thanks Henward! Yeah, I honestly don't know how you could have packed him any better! Thanks for taking such good care of him I am just over anxious and trying to make sure I am doing the right thing! I will avoid water change, and turn off the rest of the lights when I get home. I think i have some AquaPlus and Melefix that i can 'dump' in. They are such beauties by the way! I am amazed how much colour they are showing already. Can't wait for him to recovery so I can take some pics! Might not want to hand off my friend's 3 discus to her tonight...ahaha.
  8. We don't know his age, probably at least 3 years i would guess. He is definitely a big boy...and I knew shipping him would be risky. I just don't wanna miss any opportunity to do something to help him that i've overlooked. Would a water change when I got home be a good idea or would that just push him over the edge I'm glad there are other discus around him. I hope his girlfriend can convince him to not give up!
  9. Hi guys, I just received the discus from Henward at about 12:30 pm and rushed home to put them in the tank. I floated the bags, mixed half tank and half bag water and let them acclimate for about 30 min. There are 5 discus in total, and 4 of them have started settling in and simming around with the others. A couple have even started eating. The biggest Cobalt male however is still struggling. His breathing is only a little bit slower but he is acting quite lethargic. He is sitting near the bottom and leaning a bit on the tank wall. Hi eyes are still moving around and reacting to his surroundings but he hasn't recovered like the others. I turned off half the tank lights to make things a bit more comforting. The female colbalt keeps him company most of the time but then swims with the other fish for a while too. He was packed in a huge bag on his own. Wasn't gasping for air when I opened the box but lying slightly on his side (a few of the others were also doing this but straightened out quicker once they 'woke' up). The water got fairly cool as I find that those heat packs never last 40 hr like they are suppose to. Is there anything else I can for him? I don't wanna lose him.
  10. Ummm... What do you mean when you say 'black albino'? Do you want a black fish with red eyes? Not possible.
  11. But the evidence Stella gave said that Ich doesn't lie dormant, therefore the fish must have had a minor infection all along.
  12. Thats fair enough. Didn't realized that no dormant stage existed. I know the free-swimming stage doesn't last long, but I figured the cysts in the substrate do. How is it that his discus suddenly go infected out of nowhere? The too possible options are that he either introduced fish recently or that his discus have been midly infected all along. My comment was based on the fact that I would find it difficult to believe that most people have completely eliminated Ich from their aquariums without several courses of medications. Whether or not the Ich is left in a dormant stage or is continuously infecting the fish in extemely small numbers (which are not visible), it is more important to concentrate on the fish being happy and have clean water. Putting them through, what i think, is uneccessary treatment when they have already fought off the infection will just add to their stress.
  13. Yes I'm sure the photo is taken in a way to exaggerate the size, and also probably a bit colour enhanced. The fish was caught in France and weighed 30lb (13.6kg). The link to the article is directly below the pic.
  14. I think a huge tank full of them in an Asian zoo would be great!
  15. If it were me, I would not bother treating at all if it already disappeared. White spot is always present in your tank, its only a matter of when the fish get stressed that causes them to become suseptible to it. Since its a discus tank, you the temp is likely back up close to 30, the outbreak will have run its course quickly and the fish will be fine. Just keep an eye on them and keep up with your regular water changes
  16. Holy cow...i mean fish!!! http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/7911 ... -goldfish/
  17. Because 4GB ram will be outdated in about 2 years and I want my laptop lasting longer than that without any noticeable speed decrease. Websites and programs are consistently being upgraded and becoming more resource heavy. 2GB was amazing years ago... why not anymore?
  18. Very good point that I forgot to mention. Harvey Norman likes when people pay in full and will give you a further discount. The guy I talked to at the time said he could do another 8% discount off sticker price.
  19. Only a matter of time before thats try eh? lol
  20. Hahah, sorry about that! I meant 500GB harddrive  It has 4GB ram like the bigger one.
  21. I've been doing a lot of research lately because i'm looking to replace my laptop too and I decided on getting a Toshiba Satellite P500 11S. It is bad-ass. It's got a quad-core processor (i7) - there are 4 of them!!!!, 4GB ram (its only downside for me as i was looking for 6-8 but i can upgrade later if i want), 750GB harddrive, 17.5" screen, a Blue-ray player, incredibly good speakers (reviews have been saying they are some of the best quality possible for a laptop), etc. I chose it because it is near the fastest comp on the market and i'm looking for a laptop to be a desktop replacement. It is heavy but luckily i am done school and will not be carrying it outside the house. Because its so powerful, it doesn't last as long on battery life as do the smaller more portable types but that doesn't affect me. Currently its listed for $2999 which is a bit more then you wanted to spend, but I was in HN the other day again stalking it (haha) and noticed that they also released a baby brother version for a lot less ($2100 i think). I forget the exact name of it but you will be able to tell which one it is because it looks exactly like the P500 on the exterior. The only diff is that it is smaller (15.5"), has 500GB RAM, and no blue-ray player (but still a DVD drive). all other specs are the same!!! So you would be getting extreme value for money. I would highly recommend Toshiba. I've had my old Toshiba Satellite for about 6 years and it is still running, and aside from a few things FINALLY giving out (like the DVD burner, SD card reader, and battery no longer being able to unplugged from the wall), it still works although now its much slower as its still on 1GB or RAM and has an outdated processor. I would advise against building a laptop or buying a mac book for the following reasons. When it comes to building laptops (DELL for example), you will end up paying MORE for the same specs and without the flashy bonuses. Desktop PCs may be more worth building but not laptops. Macbooks, have a lot of eye candy software installed on them (comparable to Windows 7 now anyways) and are overpriced for what you get hardware-wise. You will be paying close to $2000 and only getting 2GB ram, 350GB harddrive and a single processor equivallent to the INTEL i3 or i5 (which are both much slower now then the new i7). As far as them being better for music, i don't see how...their speakers are not any better. If you like iTunes, you can download it on a PC as well. I could go on for days about why you are buying into the brand of Mac rather then getting a better computer...but i'll just finish with saying that people's arguments for Macs being better: 'they are more reliable and easier to use' does not read with me. My Toshiba NEVER crashed in all 6 years that i have used it (i don't even remember what a blue screen looks like). Secondly, you are not a 'ma and pa' consumer...can you honestly say that you've ever found a computer 'hard' to use? Windows supports a myriad of software....if you don't like using a certain program because its illogical (eg. window media player or IE) simple use VLC and firefox instead. Easy as and free. If you wait till x-mas, prices are likely to drop even more.
  22. I haven't seen these here yet but used to see them in Canada all the time. Since I know Nandus nandus made it here, i thought maybe other species of leaffish may also have.
  23. Sorry, one more suggestion: Mono Sebae Yes, Monos and bumblebee gobies are brackish
