  1. Can someone please tell me how the booking process works. I'm a first time user and want to know how tickets are obtained after buying and paying for them.. does it get emailed, do we print it off do we have a ticket number to quote or what? The website carries LITTLE information for first time users in regards to the ticketing process. The website is currently not functioning properly which is adding to my problems, need to sort something out before my son goes down to Palmerston North tomorrow. He has a ride down but will need to bus back (To Auckland) on Friday! I'd rather have it sorted before he goes away but I can't get the darn booking process to work.
  2. he's about 6-8 months I think. Sadly I don't have the female anymore. She passed on a few months ago and I want a green one to replace her.
  3. I like to mirror my fighter to keep him active, and the finnage strong. But my guy is such a wuss.. he flares and everything but within seconds of seeing the mirror and flaring, the colour will drain way from his body leaving him all pale. what a wuss. Is the mirror too stressful for him? I do it every second - third day.
  4. you might be able to get some plastic sheeting of some sort and angle the water towards the back of the tank or something like that. Otherwise lots of plants and/or ornaments may create some low current areas for the betta to be happy in. I have my male betta in a hexy with adjustable water flow, my first betta was perfectly happy but when I got the 2nd one, he had obviously been in a very still tank as he really struggled for a few days but now hangs about in the plants and seems fine. Fill up your water as high as you can while still leaving a breathing space.
  5. if no-one wants it sam, I'm sure the wildbirds would thank you for it in the upcoming winter. or if there's quite a bit, there's a bird rescue lady in Manukau.. might even be totara heights from memory. Sorry to hear about your budgie
  6. Hi Jonathan! judging by your description of your tanks and fish I think I might have bought some guppys from you. (via Trademe) Welcome and good luck with the breeding. Rebecca
  7. that was adorable and sent my cockatiel into loud shrieks coz she wanted to join in.
  8. well he has enough life in him to escape being caught! I'll try again later when he is calm again.
  9. My youngest Kuhli Loach appears to be injured, but I'm not sure what to do about it. We've had this one for only 6 months or so. He/She has what looks like a cluster of eggs hanging under her belly but they are not green , and the area around it is red, maybe a bit swollen. hard to get a good look let alone a photograph. There is another patch of red/white skin as though she has been bitten or had a scrape. Can't imagine what has happened unless another fish has attacked it.. the only possible culprit is the Hypancistrus choc zebra as I suspect he also killed one of my otos. The kuhli is hiding amongst the plants and behind the driftwood, in the cave etc , not burrowing as he usually does so i know he's not happy. What is the best course of action.. that egg looking cluster has me worried, could it be intestines ?

    Hi

Hi Suz! where are you located?
  11. hmmm maybe I have both types and I didn't know it! I have spotted and non spotted. The non spotted are bigger than the spotteds.
  12. how big are they meant to get? The one in the 2nd pic (single loach) has similar markings to one of my Kuhlis.
  13. I would have called the ambulance too. Sudden, extreme prolonged abdominal pain could mean urgent attention needed. A GP visit would just prolong that! How is hubby now?
  14. sorry to hear about your bristlenose I have one tank that consistently has lower pH than my other tanks. Have no idea why, i use the same water etc. It was reading a round 6.2- 6.4 . I try to avoid those pH adjuster chemicals but I tried adding some cuttlefish to the water and increasing the filter flow. (I did have it set to low for my my betta, and now it's medium low) My pH sits around 6.6-6.8 now. I would rather it pH7.0 but at least it's stable.
  15. has it always been that way? has it got worse or are people starting to change their thinking with more western influence? I'm so glad my Chinese father was not raised that way. he would not hurt a fly. And yes , he was raised in mainland china until he escaped the communists under gunfire and made his way by swimming to Hong Kong. (when he was a young teen). I can say that my father, though very traditional Chinese is definitely one that considers all life precious and had pets of his own.
  16. I saw a post on the TMMB about live fish and turtles being sealed into keyrings and left to die.. I was so upset and thought it was a hoax but haven't found anything to show me it's not true. Sadly it seems it is happening in China: http://shanghaiist.com/2011/04/02/live_ ... =3#gallery
  17. get more girls? what's the ratio? Two of the girls in my tanks are really popular because they are the biggest and they get more attention than the other girls. Sometimes they get sick of it and turn around and chase the boys. I'm growing up some more girls (the big girls offsrping) in the hopes I'll get some more big girls to even out the ratio.
  18. yeah - baby platy are the cutest. so fat and cute! Way cuter than baby guppy. I might just get some more platy now.
  19. hmmm, I never had trouble when I had platy .. two of them in a 22L tank. I always had at least 10 surviving fry and didn't do anything special. Plantwise they had indian fern to hide amongst and somehow they managed to escape the adult platy. How many adults have you got in the tank? 22L is not that big so you wouldn't want to too many anyway.
  20. how bizzarre! "Huffing" is something that Birmans actually do. If you've never heard a Birman Huff it is quite hard to explain , but Birman owners who have seen it will know exactly what I mean. It's like a bark/cough/strongly exhaled breath but not a hiss. Say "Huff" with a aspriration and that is close to the Birman Huff. The first time I heard one of My Birmans Huff it was so funny. The dog he was huffing at didn't know what to make of it and ran away with the Birman in pursuit. My latest little sweetheart Huffs when he plays and before he starts purring. SO weird. I don't know if other breeds do this but I have only heard Birmans Huff, not my ragdoll and none of my moggies or any of my friends cats - except for the Birmans.
  21. yeah , add a couple of females.. he's probably just horny.
  22. it's those photos I hide from my hubby.. he was a MTB nut and attempted everything and anything and two back surgeries later with several fused discs has been banned by his physiotherapist from MTB rides! well guess what- today he's down in the redwoods doing a casual low impact ride - yeah right!
