  1. does anybody know if acriflavine causes permanent sterility in fish or just temporary? My shark had a go at one of my male guppies and his tail is looking worse for wear, and hasn't healed. So I've put him in a separate tank now and was thinking about using acrifilavine to help the healing. He's my last neon blue tux so I would like him to still be able to breed.
  2. yep def calamanus . I had a run in with these when I first started the hobby. aviverm (containing levamisole) was very affective and dealt with the problem. Good luck, be vigilant with the water changes and re-dosing, lot of work but it's worth the effort to be rid of these nasty things. Out of interest, are the infected fish live bearers?
  3. i usually fast my fish one night a week, followed by squashed peas for breakfast the next morning.
  4. I haven't owned a lot of betta (3 males, 3 females) but I found the males to be lazy .. gave short chase and then gave up. The females were more active in their hunting .. and a better personality too I am talking about guppy an platy fry though who are quite big compared to some other species.
  5. thanks for the info. Hopefuly I'll be able to find this post again if I ever get my hands on some droncit. I don't have a major problem in my fishtank but every couple of months a guppy will die off and not old guppies either ... . one of two things happen.. they either get skinny or they get really fat in the front. (but not dropsy), before they get quiet, stop eating and die. I'm not 100% sure it's worms but I've tried all the other worming treatments, salted the water and also a course of whitespot cure (when my pleco got whitespot after purchase) . The guppies didn't have whitespot but I'm sure some of the chemicals in it can help with other ailments too.
  6. although a Ragdoll and a young child might not be a great mix because the raggie can be too tolerant and end up getting hurt. we have a ragdoll and a Birman, both GREAT cats

 that's great news must have been a healthy fish to begin with.
  9. uh-huh, ok ., Maybe I BROKE the site :slfg: seems strange that I was having problems all week before anyone else and now it's down for everyone. Well i will just wait and see what happens now. So do you think my router is OK , working normally. ?
  10. well it worked for about 1 minute last night but today it says the site is down.. can someone check if it's down for everyone or just me : http://www.fishpopnd.co.nz i did the tracert but not sure how to interpret the results, it timed out
  11. not sure.. where would I check and how would I change it?
  12. hey just wondering where you get the prazi from? I've only managed to get levamisole.
  13. oh I see. Ok thanks heaps. I will just keep persevering and see if my bookmark link comes right on it's own.
  14. does it matter that my windows is 64 bit? the ping was sending 32
  15. I have also discovered that if I Google search "fishpond contact" I can use the google result to get to fishpond but not if I type it in directly to my browser or use my bookmark or use an ordinary Google fishpond result . it's all very strange!
  16. that link did take me to the fishpond home page but when I went to log in it said the site was untrusted so I wasn't sure whether to proceed. by rebooting the router do you mean just turn it off (including at the wall) and turning it on again? I did that.
  17. thanks.. it said pinging fishpond.co.nz 184.72.224.41 with 32 bytes of data then the request timed out 4 x. packets sent 4, received 0 - 100% loss
  18. yep done that. using Firefox, but also tried it on internet explorer. I think it's a problem with my broadband router somehow because the netbook won't load fishpond either. I'm just not sure what to do next. lol, the nerf link came through as an email newsletter link. I find fishpond although slow to send stuff these days are a lot cheaper than other online stores and the shipping is free. I'd like to continue using the site if I can get it back.
  19. thanks Melanie No fishpond links will work at all, I've tried them directly from my emails as well. Cc cleaner just removes cookies and and whatever else but I am at my wits end. looking at the Facebook fishpond page they r not big on customer service so I don't know if they'd be willing to help me sort it either. I also have a current order I want to track and can't get on the site or email them to even make an inquiry!
  20. ok, have now tried to load on sons netbook using wifi connection to our router. same result. so it must be something to do with our router I guess.. how do I fix it?
  21. ok I need some advice from the computer techie savvy peoples. I can't access a specific website (www.fishpond.co.nz) It's been going on several days and it's driving me nuts. The page just will not load, all i get is a blank white page on firefox and a error note on internet explorer. I have tried everything to resolve, I've tried the windows network diagnostics troubleshooter which found nothing wrong, I've removed all the cookies , cleared the cache, tried a force refresh (ctrl f5) , asked firefox to "forget the site" , checked that it's not running through a proxy. What else can I do? I can't get onto the site at all to email their own techie people for help. I need to followup an order plus check my wishlist for fathers day pricing on a couple of items. I have Windows 7 and firefox . All other websites I visit are functioning as usual.
  22. oh, i wonder what they are if not guppies.. can you get a photo, someone on here will surely know. Hope they are not gambusia!!
  23. I wonder if you could put a blanket over the tank at night to prevent it from dropping in temp too much. I do that with one of my tanks because the glass is thin.
