  1. aaaw, hope she's ok. I wonder if it's her thyroid. My cat is almost 12 years , I don't want him to get old but I can see that he's not a young cat anymore.

    Gambusia?

well they look like guppies to me. Gambusia have different placement of their fins. In guppy's the dorsal and anal fin are pretty much in line /opposite each other. In gambusia the dorsal fin is set further back. Take a look and see if I'm right. The gambusia i see at our local ponds definitely have different fin placement and look different to plain guppies and wildtypes.
  3. I like the females fighters, they've got so much more spunk than the males. I don't have experience with discus or clown loach so can't really vote accurately!
  4. agree with the others that are saying GO TROPICAL! hehe IF you decided to stay with goldies, don't add any more. 2 is more than enough for that tank.. is it an AR380? Just think , in that tank you could have several pretty little fish swimming around.

    Dropsy

oh dear.. are they pineconing? Don't think there is much you can do for them. Epsom salt can help give some relief but not cure as far as I know. I've never saved a fish from dropsy in the long run, salt and antibacterial treatments have only prolonged the inevitable . Managed to bring back life to a Betta but then he pineconed all over again in a months time.
  6. I've PMed you the thread with details on my eel. I think he will get to about 20-25cm max. He's one of the small types and won't grow too big. I believe he is a striped peacock eel / peacock variant. EEls are groundwellers, territorial and like hidey places. They can eat small fish that fit in their mouth but my eel hasn't eaten the guppies in his tank , just the occasional guppy fry. I don't think eels are particularly difficult to look after compared to most other tropicals. My 14 yr old daughter took care of him , fed him every 2nd day, regular tank maintenance, that sort of thing.. BUT he will need a tank with a secure lid. He hasn't tried to escape but our last eel did, and succeeded! See what other people think, if an eel would be suitable for you. Get back to me if you're still interested as I will put him on Trademe soon.
  7. well I use steroid and hydrocortisone creams on my hands and arms. Usually I give my hands a wash before putting my hands in the tank anyway but I don't think it's caused any problems.
  8. nice. Get at least 3 female guppies, there should always be more females than male guppies to help keep the stress levels down,, but then again there always seems to be a fav female that all the males want to chase.. typical!
  9. people are sometimes a little bemused when I say I keep fish but more often than not they say something along the lines of "Oh , that's an interesting hobby .. is it hard? then they recall their childhood goldie that died after a few weeks. " I consider my fish and tanks as living ornaments that are both entertaining and relaxing. I generally get positive comments from my friends and colleagues. They all know we're animal mad in my house anyway.
  10. well at least you're sorted now. But I've bought vita pet water ager form Papakura countdown many times.. it's a good cheap standbye. Prime is the best though. And stress coat helpful for lightly injured fish
  11. why not just get some water ager from countdown pet aisle. It's basic vitapet but does the trick.
  12. they do look like wildtype guppies. I have some at the moment that I'm selling as I only keep tuxedos. I took out two wild type males and put them in a small tank together and one was definitely showing off to the other, the way they would with a female. Sometimes they mistake the dark spot in wildtypes as a gravid spot. Guppys are so frisky lol.
  13. java fern would be good. You can tie it on to a rock or driftwood and because it stays quite rigid, it's easy enough to lift out the whole thing while cleaning .
  14. 3 of my tanks come out at ph 7.0 and one comes out at 6.4, that one is always lower than the others for some reason. I'm sth auck and my tap water is usually over pH7.4 , I'm guessing closer to 8.
  15. lol.. well your GF was there that day . haha.
  16. oh ok, Maybe I got it wrong. I bought a red tux from someone in Manukau heights I think, from a fishroom shed behind the garage.
  17. he wants to know who u r now. I think I bought a red tux guppy from u at your grandfathers house
  18. I've PMd you. The Y12 boy does 12 com.
  19. I have two at HC.. Yr 10. and Yr 12. As far as they are concerned it's just school and nothing exciting lol.
  20. This is an old photo .. before I chucked out the plastic plants. Plastic was temp while I waited for the green ones to grow.
  21. My daughter did the 3D animation course last hols and thoroughly enjoyed it. I just wish the 3D Ultra was at a Howick coll as well , Mt Eden is too much out of the way on a work day! Yes it's expensive but it think it's far superior to most holiday programmes out there. The organisation was great. Adrienne , what's your daughters name? The lady I dealt with via email when I had lots of questions was really great!
  22. thanks , that's rockband and those guitars don't seem to be compat with guitar hero according to: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6183555/guitar-compatibility-charts I'm looking at PS2 and it does seem that the guitars are compatible including the encore one on fishpond.
  23. I couldn't find a guitar on mightyape.. just a bundle but not of guitar hero II. The other one I will get is III.
  24. my daughters bd is coming up and she said she'd like a guitar hero event with her friends. She specified guitar hero II as her first choice but I'm planning on buying another one as well. I had a look on Trademe and then an online store. I noticed that the guitar fishpond is selling says that it is compatible with "PS2 Guitar Hero and PS2 Guitar Hero 2." http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Games/Guitar-Hero-Wireless-Guitar-Playstation-2/9328878008241 That got me thinking. Are there compatibility issues for guitars and the different versions of guitar hero. If I bought that one on fishpond would I not be able to play it with a later version of guitar hero? Would greatly appreciate any advice before I go out buying the guitars or games. There's a guitar on TM I was thinking of buying and then would get the one of Fishpond as well so they are two different colours.
