  1. Beautiful pictures! Bizarre weather alright - we had a sprinkling of snow in Cambridge!! Not enough to settle, but still... it was snow! First time ever I think!
  2. My partner found a little deformed fry, almost bent in half a few months ago... and put it in the cichlid tank. (I dont like doing this to my babies so I tell him if he must, he should do it and not tell me... anyway he did it, then told me). Last week we moved house and discovered said fish in the sump of the cichlid tank. It is a little bigger now (obviously) but he put it back in the tank with the cichlids. Anyway now a week later I go to feed the cichlids and this little fry is up at the top of the tank feeding! He must be a clever little guppy... or not look very tasty. Tho he may be too big now for them to eat... I'm not too sure.

    Hi

How is your male krib?? We have 1 baby Krib... not sure what happened to the rest. We have moved and they are in a smaller tank atm... They are really very pretty fish, but I really dont want them to keep breeding at this stage ... we have nowhere to put them :sml1:
  4. Nice We have a big tank in the lounge... its come in from the other garage, it had goldfish in it... now its got slush in it! Needs to be cleaned... but took 4 of us to lift it in here... and we cant move it ourselves... gonna start smelling soon  Eventually its gonna be our display tank when we get sorted
  5. Thanks Yeah its more the house to garage distance outside in the cold bit as its not internal access... Tho the distance house to garage in this house is gonna be like 3 m... in the last house had to go out the front door, across the section, down the side of the house then into the garage... like 10 - 15 m haha so will be a much quicker trip
  6. Made it. Kinda nice having the inside... no more going out into the garage at night when its cold! Tho the slab is going down tomorrow so hopefully the garage will be up soon and they can be set up properly Took a whole day to move/set up and there are still a couple of (now empty) tanks at the old place waiting to be moved over! Fish all well and happy tho so thats the main thing
  7. Thanks! Yeah we are not shifting far... so I guess the transporting of the fish wont be too bad... will be the dismantling, moving and resetting up of the tanks thats a pain in the butt! Tho we will just be plonking them in the house somewhere... to be moved again when the garage is built to their permanent home. Have bought a heap of sponge filters so hopefully that will keep them going til we get everything set up in the garage again. Have some big containers for water, poly boxes for fish, a few small heaters/bubblers for while we are setting up etc.... Hopefully will all go well Cant wait to get the garage up and get them set up properly!!
  8. True... would be easiest. Will have to find a few now
  9. This is my fav guppy atm. Albino snakeskin.. he's so pretty Not the best pic... wish they'd stay still for longer!
  10. Yeah... Well ours definately turned on the older lot. We have a divider in the tank now to seperate them. The Mum and Dad both glide by the divider and 'go' any of the young ones that come near! We have put plenty of plants in so they cant see each other as much now!
  11. Yeah its currently both parents with the new babies, and the older (4-5cm) ones seperate. We dont actually want to breed them as we are wanting to sell them. But now they have breed I would like to see the little guys live! The Dad is very protective at the moment and they are all following him around.. its very cool to watch. But he did that with the last lot too... before their disappearance! Will put some more plants for cover for them.. tho they are all just hanging with Dad atm. Fingers crossed for them. Hopefully we can find them a nice new home ... we have far tooooo many tanks going the power bill is insane!
  12. Thanks... yeah they are in their own tank as they were very unfriendly towards other fish. Might try and sell all of them then... if its ok to move them so young... as dont really want to keep a tank going just for them to keep breeding in. Too many tanks going!
  13. Just after some advice. We purchased a tank a while ago that came with a pair of adult Kribs and several young. After a month or so we had to seperate the young from the parents as Dad was chasing them all over the place and generally hassling them. So we thought we'd sell the parents, then the next day we noticed a mass of babies with Dad. So we kept them. Then something (?) happened and we lost all the babies. Disappeared. Eaten? There is one left who was about 1cm and being chased away, so we've moved him to our guppy fry tank where he is pretending to be a guppy. We just advertised the parents for sale again and now there are a whole lot more babies! We've only started fish keeping this year and all our knowledge about Kribs come from what we have read online, not from experience. Any ideas what happened to the babies? And is it ok to move the fry if we sell them with the adults? Or if we keep them, what can we do to ensure the fry survive???? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the tips... We have plastic barrels so will use at least 50% existing water I think... Poly boxes sound a good idea, will get hold of some of them. We are thinking we have enough 'spare' tanks to get them set up where we are moving and then move the fish straight into them. And set up their usual tanks in the garage when we get it then swop them straight back in there... My partner thinks the shipping container idea is a good one... and TM have some damnit... scarey! We are just moving down the road so yeah fish wont be in poly boxes for toooooooo long we hope.
  15. So we are shifting in 3 weeks... we have 11 tanks full of fish to shift. We have the tanks in the garage at the moment, and our new house doesnt have a garage but we will be building one, so they will be temporarily moved inside, then moved into the garage once that is built. Has anyone else moved alot of tanks??? Do you have any tips on how to make this as smooth as possible? Especially as we need to double move them. Also some of them are sumped now and as they are moving inside onto carpet we are planning on using sponge filters, have a couple of canister filters... This will probably be for 3 - 4 weeks max I think all going well with the garage. Also we are building the garage specifically for the fish!!! ie we wont be parking the car in there! So we are thinking about putting the fish along the back wall and down one side. We have big square tables we built for them at the moment and 2 sit on each one... but I thought if we put them along the walls ... we could see them all ... and it would take up less space. So... looking for tips from those who have set up fish rooms... and tips for shifting... Its seeming like a big mission... bad enough moving us... let alone masses of fish tanks!! Thanks
