  2. Agreed  I wouldn't say its the simplest Family to muck around with.

That doesn't sound right, they will have been under warranty anyway :-? The Jager has been re-made recently with the exclusion of the ceramic center and new dials. Fluval or Eheim i dont see any other as worth consideration, it blows and your fish are dead.
  4. This is H. Lanceolata photo by I. seidel, The true Black tail whiptail is Hemiloricaria Nigricauda which your fish clearly are'nt. After looking through the above whiptail book it appears there are two sp within the name and a handfull of variants which both your whips can fall in.
  5. Pics 1 and 2 are Hemiloricaria Lanceolate, the whip pic 3 on the right is Rineloricaria Parva or simillar (common Whiptail). Lucky you beat me to those Lanceolate
  6. Its not that its another species but a variant new to Nz. Macrognathus siamensis is generally plain with a single dorsal high stripe and spots that vary in number in the set back dorsal fin. None the less awesome fish.
  7. Thats how it sounds, have you got an overly boisterous male?
  8. None of them are, simply the fact that alot of the Australian imported Malawi are incorrectly identified. Also having seen the exporters lists that are imported from where names spontaneously change after arrival. Tanganyikan cichlids are simply identified due to there very little domestication where as Malawi are being bred and exported nothing coming directly from the lake.
  9. Leave the Bolivians to do the job if they dont succeed this time it will only make them better next time round. Keep the rest of the community well fed.
  10. I wouldn't trust the names administered by Bayfish or Aquatopia as i recall many where incorrect more so in the Malawi category than any other.
  11. What happend to QLDAF?
  12. It would have helped to mention that to a newbie, as much of this forum is based on peoples "opinions" and so called, considered advice.

  14. Belo Monte = Beautiful Mountain, hence the reason for wind generators that of no burden to anything including the wallet. The mountain was chosen as a position in which some area could be spared where no "nuclear" power plant could be situated. Nuclear power produces a waste of which is unusable a pollutant and in the long term a burden that will build up. Nuclear power will produce more electricity but is less desirable to the environment and would eventually cause some side effect to the surrounding ecosystem. I don't see any place for Nuclear power until a viable use can be found for its waste. With the financial situation of South America they would eventually start dumping in there own country, killing what you strive to protect.
  15. It was stopped in court by the "greens" but Mr da silva had it over turned the next day, there still yet to find a buyer as it it is alot of money that is aside to supposably compensate the environment (most probably to end up in Mr da silva's pocket). Sting made an environmental stand for the Brazillians once before, but as far as im aware has no plans to do so this time. Wind power would take less space and be environmentally satisfying, produce power year round (unlike the Belo Monte which will not produce power during low water seasons) and be far more cost effective. Unfortunately the country is in debt and requires the large sale in order to lift some of this, having nothing to do with the 6% growth per year. I have good friends in Brazil who have tried with no luck to protest this development, and the public of south america (not just brazil) would like to see the project canned. The president and the brazillian environmental body will not hear any proposed alternative. The environmental body of Brazil has split and had many resignations over the Belo Monte, seeming many wouldn't succumb to bribery and the meer un-intelligent president.
  16. That is not from a wholesaler they are a foreign based company who import just Tanganyikans http://www.airfish-cichlids.com/ It is quite common for them to be out of stock as i have purchased from them when i lived in Aus, alot dies in transit, and alot never got sent.
  17. Im not a fan of the net ones, id go a full plastic one with vents in the sides. You will still get good flow, and the fry will be able to be raised to a stable size, fed etc within the trap. HTH
  18. Id recommend removing them and putting them into a small trap with an air-stone until they hatch (within the original tank)
