  1. Work in admin, good with systems and trained users. Love technology always have. Been in the fish keeping hobby for 26 years.
  2. Awww why so many owners? Poor boy Photos?
  3. Those Severums look only small though. Most of the fish look still small for their potential.
  4. I am on the same page as Sunbird. I too have always replaced tank water with tepid water. Been doing it for many years so it's the norm for me. Only ever had 2 cases of white spot too. Perhaps it is the female duty of care
  5. Personally I would consider the use of a ph controller is for the health of the fish not the plants. Co2 lowers the ph.

    Mystery fry

Years ago I moved flats and had taken all my fish and the water out of my tank and only left the stones in it (it was a small tank by my standards). Anyway when I refilled it hours later all these platty babies came from no where out of the stones. Didn't even know I had them. Also had black neon babies survive like this once. Guppies and plattys etc are pretty tough little fish. Did he have any fish where the oxygen weed came from?
  7. Yeah depends on the hatch tho. I already have a 1200x600x600 tank and I know that would not fit in my mothers hatch. I have a Rex and the doors do not open out that far then there's the shape of the frame. Real bugger. Tried to throw a hint at work as we have lots of vans but no one jumped on the idea haven't been there long enough to come right out and ask. I think the offer on the tank has closed now too.
  8. Cabomba is my suggestion. I recently refreshed my tank with some cabomba. The existing plant suffered from the temp being raised to 28 degrees. Since learnt that the supplier of it to the LFS grows it in a pond! I have proven myself that this plant grows well in natural light with no obvious algae. It can grow pretty long in the right conditions.
  9. I am after help transporting a tank from auckland to Hamilton. Tank is 1200 long 570 high and 600 wide. Tank on TM and have not bought yet due to transport issues :tears: Would really appreciate the help.
  10. Obviously makes good sleeping material too! :gigl:
  11. No gingers? :gigl: Both my ginger cats love the tanks. The others couldn't care less and the dog thinks I'm crazy for talking to the fish! Love the discus. How old are they?
  12. Ewwww bad image  But seriously I used to work with a couple of people who swore by the stuff. Best bet is to stick to something like cricketman said. Perhaps buy a product you can continue to afford and easy to get. I was put on a regime at 12 and never really developed a problem. Good luck!
  13. GT really? Then I must have odd balls. My GT's are the most aggressive eaters in my tank and only at 3 inches and smaller than everyone else. Had a salvini before and found it quite skitty.
  14. Very different look with the blue. Do the plants like the marine blue? I was thinking about adding a blue light for my loaches but I've noticed not all fish react well to the blue. Thoughts?
  15. Hey I have a 1200x600x600 tank and the one twin 1200 long T5's (2x 24w) is enough. Some people were telling me that I needed 2 twins but no the one is heaps. Plants growing like crazy. For yours I would say two of those units if you want good growth on plants. I have another tank with large South Americans and I have noticed that they don't like overly bright lights and they also don't respond well to the blue bulb so I don't use it.
  16. Looks really good  Any reptile would be happy to live in there
  17. Really? Does world of water import their own fish?

    feeding

I have a small amount of blue circle and would like to treat the tank with that but it's not enough to treat a 430lt tank. Shops in Hamilton do not sell it. Is it even available anymore? I have the temp at 28 and there is about 22 Tsp of salt in there :-? I will look into the stress factor further cheers guys

    feeding

I have a very persistent bout of white spot. No deaths and when I think it's all gone it appears on a clown loach or 2. Have been treating initially with salt and temp and now wunder tonic. Not full doses as aware that loaches are sensitive to treatments. Would this levamisole help?
  20. Have a Aqua CF1200 and a Eheim 2213 on a 430lt tank. Good having inlet and outlet at each end. Plus one is mostly for BB and the other cleaned more regularly. Another bonus is if one packs up you have at least one until you replace the other
  21. A very high level of phosphate does actually stress the fish. I've put phosphate remover in my external filter. Sera brand but you can get the API brand also.

    Great. Thanks for that

    The What's Up? thread.

I'm sitting here wondering if someone is going to fix the time on the forum. I assme this would mean all PM's are probably delayed too. Sorry to hear about your goldfish Caryl. My husband did the lawns hoping that the 2 magpies that have been hanging out in our backyard were not going to get him.
  24. Hey I'm in Hamilton and could help you out with some used filter wool. Can't guarantee that it would be free of sand - my fish are naughty! I could give you some media however I have none to replenish my tank. I would suggest a product called prime. It helped me with my cycling issues before.
  25. I have Cabomba Carolineana in my tank and it grows rapidly and I do get the pink tips. That Cabomba certainly looks cool! Is it a commonly found?
