  1. Uh oh this is what happened with the blue rams I got in February. Didn't know why or what caused it. It's what has made me determined to try again and succeed. High phosphates? That's the only thing I didn't test for.
  2. Certainly good stock out there ATM compared to earlier in the year. Mine have even coloured up more since the other day. The veiltails have amazing colours now, real show stoppers! Now trying to decide between balloon or electric blue rams next.

    is this real???

Yes. They are also only suspended by pins. Nothing else holding them. Bottom one also has its legs tucked underneath. I plan to tastefully fix them up.

    Trogonoptera Brookiana (Raja Brooke's Birdwing)

    is this real???

Theres a shop that I want to visit over in tauranga. Picked up a birdwing pair in a secondhand shop in morrinsville a few weeks back. Paid $15.00 for them. They appear to have been imported to nz in the frame they are in
  6. Same here Plus never had a nickname that I am happy to make public.

    is this real???

I collect butterflies and I certainly would say fake.
  8. Ok photo time  Please excuse any bad photo skills. Veiltail's: German blue: These guys are still very juvenile so still to colour up yet
  9. Will do. However I climatised them slowly so they did not hide at all and cruised the tank pretty much straight away. Would those licorice gouramis go with rams? Thoughts anyone?
  10. I got 3 blue rams and 3 veiltailes today :happy2: Wanted to get 3 balloon rams too but there was only 1 left. I know the balloons are not everyone's cup o tea, but I think they are pretty adorable. Also started to get my school of cardinals going. Very excited!
  11. Or the poop from the neighbouring pigeons :gigl:
  12. On tank water? Or do you collect it? Have thought about setting up a small rain water collection system myself.
  13. Yep my husband told me that we are going to go there at some point :happy1:
  14. Where did you get yours from Danval? Look like nice specimens.
  15. At least 4 maybe 5. I have a pair of bolivians already in my 430 which I was going to move over. Would also like to put a pair/trio of blue rams and apistograma's in there. Another pair of rams would be nice if I can fit them.
  16. Very well setup like that now. Heaps of plants etc..
  17. As the topic says want to know how many Rams and Apistogramma's I could get away with putting in a 175 litre tank. Looking at my options as want to keep some. Thanks Karina.
  18. Did you leave the glosso in there as it was when it wiltered? Any tips as I have one I bought doing the same. Not sure if it will bounce back. Really want to grow this plant. First time I had seen it at a shop here.
  19. I have Malaysian trumpet snails but I only see them in the filter or occasionally on the gravel. I think if they come out of the stones my loaches harrass them :gigl: Sometimes see the loaches trying to dig for them. I personally think the trumpet snails are beneficial for your plants.

    The What's Up? thread.

VTNZ failed my car on the basis of a loud exhaust - ok it is a bit loud. They didn't though test it the correct legal way and made an assessment by revving the crap out of it in the VTNZ building. I took it to someone else who passed it advising it was on the cuff but legal. Will never go near VTNZ again.

    Golden Rams

I would like some rams as well. I thought you both didn't like anything balloon :-? Hard decision deciding what tank to put them into.
  22. The pair I used to have was the same. Male dug the pit then the female laid the eggs. Female then would care for the eggs while male protected. Awesome Parents. My male cared for young even when a few months old.
  23. I guess I will see what ratio of male/female I end up with. I do really like the dolphins too so would love to get some of them eventually. Currently have 3 4 foot tanks of slightly different dimensions and that can be a bit of work (aquatic perfectionist  ) At least the South African one is not planted so thats a bit of reprive. Here's a photo of when the Frontosa's were added last week (so tiny and cute!)
  24. I get mine from Palmers. Costs about $13.50
