  1. I have read that the Taiwan reef are docile and males leave each other alone. There will be a dominant male but they do not fight. Another reason I like the idea of them. Buying 5 juvies off TM. Time will tell how many males I end up with.
  2. The other malawi I was thinking of was the Taiwan. Anyone seen these in person?
  3. I bet. The only time they pickup the speed is for food. Even then they glide to the surface. I'm considering blue dolphins if I can source them.
  4. For heating a tank the old general rule of thumb is 1 watt per litre. I would stick to this even with jäger. More heating is better than less.
  5. Thanks for the ideas guys . Currently in a 4 foot tank and will get them a 6 foot tank when they need it. They are about between 3-5cm currently. Did buy 3 yellows to put in there and they seem all happy together. I do like lamprologus ocellatus and would love some but I guess they are not suitable? Love the idea of fish that live in shells. I thought that dems would be too aggressive?
  6. Hi all Have recently acquired 10 juvenile Frontosa's and are wondering if anyone here can share their experiences regarding tank mates? I am very excited to finally have gotten some as it is the main African cichlid that I like. Have their tank setup with coral sand, coral rock and river stones. Cheers Karina
  7. Hey you know what they say about red "sports cars" right? I owned a 1985 MR2 for 7 years (wasn't red) so know what you mean about go cart
  8. Hey thanks Things have certainly grown since those photos. The tiger Lotus is now over 60cm tall and I have been trimming it back previously but I have left it this time to see if it will flower. Just set up another planted tank - 175 liters This weekend I'm also setting up another 4 foot tank for Frontosas :happy2:
  9. Bonus is Aqua One 1200 filters also make great seats :slfg: ..........................
  10. 430 litre tank and have a Eheim 2213 which is designed as a biological filter so has a slower trickle. Also run a aqua one 1200. My plants thrive as don't forget that they love the extra build up of biological waste as food. I think what makes tanks not crystal clear is when there is a build up of phosphates. Test for phosphates and treat when required.
  11. Welcome Stretford_end I keep 6 Cochus in with lots of other fish and have never witnessed them nipping at others tails only each other. Mind you I don't keep guppies, but have long fin zebra danios and they leave them alone. Good luck
  12. :gigl: Hi yes I do with all plants (aqua/inside/outside) Most of these were pups from my mother plants. Got about at least 19 other amazon sword pups in my 430 liter. I just hope the bristlenose in there doesn't suddenly decide he likes plants (hasn't seen them in 2 years). Warned him about being traded in for a younger model :gigl: Just now trying decide who gets to move in.
  13. Hi all Have just setup a 175 litre tank as a planted display tank. Also got a nice new pine cabinet for it to sit on. Just landscaped it today.... check it out The whoops of today was moving the plants from the 430 litre tank and disturbing the Daltons Aqua mix under the gravel. Now got a nice big clouded tank

    The What's Up? thread.

    Subaru Imprezza definitely. Good cars.
  15. You can see these if it's added to your watch list and it closes without selling. People keeping fish like this are oblivious. Even people I know thought I was mad to decline a trade if I thought that they were not going to keep the fish in the correct environment. Still an animal after all.
  16. Do most couriers deliver on Saturday? I'd hope for $40 it's overnight.
  17. How long after they were sent did you receive them? Looking at getting sent T Bar Cichlids. Would be devastated if any died.
  18. What is the going standard for shipping fish? Is $40.00 from ChCh - Hamilton ok? I am just worried that it is not warm enough yet. Kept fish for 26 years but never had fish shipped to me :-?
  19. I clean my earthworms buy putting them in water. They expell the dirt pretty quickly and usually within 2 hours I can feed them to my eel.
  20. I would suggest try adjusting the time that your lights are on. Also reduce or stop any liquid ferts/root tabs you are using. Treat for the algae. Clean any filters to get rid of any bad built up food waste.
  21. Thanks for that. However the linked crashed my internet explorer, seems a bit fishy to me. Already have pairs of 3 types of different rainbows and plan to get more. Pretty awesome fish for a planted tank, and lots of options in regards to tank mates.
  22. Hi Clearbear How long has your tank been setup? and how long have you had the rams? I and many others have tried to keep blue rams but with no success. I am starting to wonder if they prefer well established tanks. While I am here though I would like to ask if anyone has kept rams and apisto's with rainbow fish?
  23. What is it with blue rams??? I tried to keep them but they showed similar symptoms then died. I am starting to wonder if they like really mature tanks perhaps? Good luck with yours.

    ID please

Lol no that would be comitting fishy sin. He is in another tank with a real JD, red shoulder Severum and gold saum. I actually prefer him to a JD. Just goes to show that sometimes the shops don't even know what they are selling.
