    Moving tanks

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be moving house when mine sells. What a bugger as my plants were really cranking. Also will prob have to chuck and replace the stones, as I imagine cleaning out the aquatic mix would be messy? I don't like moving either. As it is I am probably having to sell my 3rd tank a 4 foot frontosa setup.

    Moving tanks

Hey What is everyone's experience here moving large tanks? I have two 4 foot tanks that I hope to be able to move without removing the stones. Reason being is that they are planted tanks and I don't want to mix up the aquatic mix underneath nor do I want to replace it yet. Is leaving the stones in going to put a strain on the tanks strength? Cheers Karina
  3. My sister used one of those "natural" ones and it was responsible for the death of her expensive bird. I won't risk it plus flys are not much of a problem at my house.
  4. Those Parkinson's are cool! They are the only ones I don't have. My favs are the turquoise I'll be moving house eventually and I'm not looking forward to uplifting my tanks and catching the fish! I have what I think are 2 male bristle nose that are fully grown. Could I put them together in my 430lt do you think?
  5. Another point to prove shops get it wrong... My mother was sold a butterfly that is a Borneo. Borneos always Labelled as butterfly's now.
  6. Hi Matt :bggrn: It seems that the new name the stores I've been in use is butterfly sucker. Personally I've always known them as Borneo catfish. They prefer lower tropical temps of up to 24 degrees. Have fun fish keeping :f77:
  7. I have kept kuhli loaches successfully many times with fine gravel over the years. I was keeping them well before silica sand was even used in tropical tanks. Currently have 5 in a 4 foot tank with small brightwater gravel and I see them everyday. They come out to feed everynight and are growing rapidly and very happy. I would think that silica sand would be rougher than fine gravel on their bodies. My thoughts anyway
  8. Be prepared for them to make a mess of your tank. I had them pilling up sand where the filter inlet was, sand all through the filter  Got on ok with severum, oscar and jd's. However may have been involved in an incident where clown loaches disapeared :-?
  9. Ahh loving sharing cat stories. My 16 year old cat in his younger years used to bring in water rats inside very alive at 2-3am. He thought that it was great fun having is mum pull out all the furniture while he waited to catch it. I would KO it and chuck it back into the gully only hoping that he wouldn't find it again. Thankfully sleeping and demanding food are his favourite pass times these days!
  10. That is pretty pokey cabomba. How much did that cost you? I did a cut back in my tank a few days ago and had stems that were twice the depth of my tank (120cm). It is actually grown in the depth of ponds and prefers lower temps and light. What I have noticed about val is it likes direct light and water movement. How long is your photo period at the moment?
  11. Wellydave that's what I love most about our animals always there to be lazy with us. Although you get off lightly, when sick I have a dog and 3 cats (was 4 up until July) "looking" after me  well my female cat does take a break to bring me some leaves :gigl: Sophia monty looks like he has a lovely coat. My next rescue cat may be a black and white one My 16 year old cat was 7.5kg when he was younger, and our boy we lost in July used to be 9.2kg. both pretty tall and long moggy boys.
  12. What happened to the November meeting? Was there one? Oh and welcome guppy luvva to the forum

    The What's Up? thread.

:slfg: reminds me when a kid we had a cat that I would put in a dolls dress and hat and wheel her around in my dolls pram and put her in the cradle. Sad thing was the cat (Siamese) loved it :slfg: Photo evidence around to prove it.
  14. Yay! I'm a big fan on saving cats. All my cats are rescued and I think they make for better companions. My best advise would be let the cat choose you. You will know if they are the one. All this kitty talk made me look through my album of kitty photos and want another! :slfg: Must put photos of mine up in that thread
  15. + 1 on the long siphon hose. I'm lucky that I have a window near my tank that I get away with bringing the garden hose in through (helps that I'm the wife too :gigl: ) Also don't use the floating bag method. Acclimatising fish is better done in a bucket. And I too have a husband as a tool. He gets to suck on the outlet pipe of the external filters to get them going :slfg:
  16. Lol I walked into my bosses office just as he opened an email. Email was full of naked women. He went bright red and I laughed. It was sent as a joke to him by a mate but he will never live it down with me.
  17. I can back P44 with the acaras and plants. My acara pair have always left the plants alone. Even delicate stemmed plants. Not too sure about a convict tho. Tank is looking great P44. I house my acaras in the same sized tank
  18. P44 I have large black neons with my Acara pair and they leave them alone. Prob too well fed! Could also just be used to them as they all grew up together.
  19. I didn't think there was such a thing as "man tank" in this hobby? Please do clarify  Wellydave it is looking good. I can give you tips on the "jungle look" if you like
  20. I've used a product called Indorex spray from the vet with 3 tanks in the house with success. I use it around his bed in the house and out in his kennel. Under couches etc.. Just cover the tank lids fully with towels. Close all doors and windows. Spray and an hour later open all windows and doors. Goodluck.
  21. In the last few years, ok maybe 10 years I hear a new song and parts of it are the exact same melody from an old school song. It does make you stop and listen and maybe connect with the song, but in the back of my mind I'm constantly thinking find your own melodies would you! :an!gry Mostly copycats imo. I have always been a fan of kiwi music. The Mutton Birds, Supergroove, The Black Seeds..... For some reason it connects with my soul. But then again so do the bagpipes
  22. A hint of a yucky odour should give clue of a body somewhere. At least it's an ok size tank to find and remove. Myself I've gotten into a habit of feeding, watching and counting my fish everyday
  23. Sorry to hear of your troubles - yours too Dan These guys are one of those elusive fish aren't they? What I have learnt about them so far is they need space, very clean water, no nitrates or anything worse in the tank. Having the Temp at 28c helps with their immunity. Don't like much salt in the water but ok with melafix. Plants help keep the nitrates down and creates hiding places. They like tannins in the water which driftwood adds. I also use Prime as my water conditioner in their tank. Good luck hope you get a good outcome.
