  1. Thanks for the pics. I may just explore the options around various outlets for the colour I want. @Rob I was under the impression that iron was ok as well, in terms of limestone and stuff I would probably not go towards that anyway, in regards to colour and strength of the rock, limestone chips would not look good IMO. I guess most things are ok, stuff like silica is fairly inert as well as regular river substrate, probably run more risk with sedimentary rock types which consist of multiple materials.
  2. I probably want to go a little bit darker to be honest, main goal is to bring out different colours in the bichirs and Jardini, but I like the consistency.
  3. Will probably buy the gravel rather than collect, Have you used this snookie? Tank is already occupied so all washing to be done in a large bin Was also wanting an answer as to whether materials like Iron would change water chemistry?
  4. Not sure, looking a relatively darkish sandy substrate, not expensive cos I have to fill a 6ftr  don't mind the source, just commercial aquarium gravel tends to be overpriced a bit IMO
  5. Wanting to change my substrate in my tank, however, not looking to buy regular pink/blue/green stuff Was wondering if there are certain substrates which contain substances that would have a negative effect on my tank + fish? eg: would Iron with its ferric oxide compound adjust the ph etc? or release harmful things?
  6. you said "contracts" I just finished your sentence. 8)
  7. Need to chuck a few fish in the other one, getting a bit JDM style.
  8. How is the knife aggression? Saw the FH in there, not planning on breeding?
  9. Haha the terror got the attention over your black aro lol  Thanks David
  10. Wow! Cool Green Terror , man I love that eel.
  11. I looked at a conversation on MFK, they pretty much said that smaller loaches get outcompeted by the larger ones, similar size = ok and similar growth rates. Might look cool altogether but might not establish good grow rates throughout. An opinion.
  12. NO! this sucks man! everyone has bad moments, dont give up on your hobby.
  13. Not sure you can really do 'oddball' without the bucks, nothing tends to be 'cheap'.
  14. Maybe a collection of cool catfish, lots of variety, kinda oddball. Especially if you get the less common varieties such as bumblebee catfish.
  15. Jeez make up your mind henward, next you'll be wanting to sell all your dels to me
  16. I'd be keen on the green striped knife, never seen them here though.
  17. I have a large tank filled with: bichirs, couple of cidhlids, jardini - can chuck him in if you like, kept them before. Depends how big tho, 8cm+ he will be fine.
  18. Choices for suitable oddballs: Small eel (peacock), Black ghost knife (for a while-will need to upgrade though), Butterfly fish, puffers, badis badis, leaf fish... not really that much else oh yeah, albino sens. Upgrade to 200L and you can keep some bichirs. Anything such as a arowana, datnoid, ornate bichir, GG which count for most of the oddballs and you will need something more substantial. IMO go for a small group of butterfly fish, lazy on their own but add a few and I think they are bit more entertaining.
  19. Those pics you posted david are of small ones  Singapore + Vancouver aquariums have pacu WAY larger than that.
  20. I think I might want to get some of these at some stage, definately a favourite rift cichlid. What's the minimum size tank for say, a pair?
