  1. Jardini's are rubbish fish, no one likes them............ I will drop in and see him this week 8) eyeball a size henward?
  2. Guppys are hardy as hell, pretty much dont die. Cooler, bigger tropicals wouldnt appreciate the majority of the water cold - spend more time at depth than at surface.

    Colourless oscars

Thats just a reg red oscar isnt it? Gold would be a white colour + black eyes http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... 24&bih=568 dont know if the link worked. Tiger oscar is a mottled red pattern, albino oscars are just well, albino. Pigeonblood oscars are white but have extensive red colour - usually richer than the common orange, and veiltail oscars can be anything, just possess a long tail.

Gold oscar? I presume you are referring to an albino/white one without red eyes.

    Colourless oscars

Yup, thats pretty much what Im after P44, just without the red/orange. Is anyone particularly breeding them, or is it gonna be hit and miss with HFF or Animates?
  6. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... 16&page=19 look at this link. looks terrible, but this one... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... 18&page=88 Looks like a pool for people, but no, for some BIG fish
  7. Heaps of the guys overseas have paddling pools in their garage which is IMO pretty crap, looks cheap and ugly. Had this conversation with Henward the other day, just ask him to give you a lecture. but he said it was something like 2500L+ and the heating becomes an issue- normal jager heater just wont cut it. Filtration is somewhat easier. Assuming you have the space to build a pond constructing a simple trickle filter system wouldnt be too much hassle.

Ooh, nice fish on that site. yeah, A.crassipinnis looks good, also I think Venezuela and orbiculus options look great too. @Phoenix: Do the velvets have red colour? Or are they more brown, gray, green? I just think a large oscar looks mint, younguns are ok, but the mass of an adult just has a different sort of appeal that makes it seem cooler. 8)

Non-red ones look more natural, show similarities to actual wild oscars (explore mfk for proof pics) which I find more attractive
  10. lately i have been inspired to get back into keeping oscars, however i only want an oscar without any red on it. Does anyone have any large non-red oscars? Pics please?
  11. Well, I was mainly referring to a top view pond, either indoor or outdoor, concrete or plastic/sheet. anything pretty much, but of a large size to hold big fish 8) But I agree with you David, gotta have a side window too - although I think silver aros look better from above.

The festae would have to be one of the largest cichlids we can get here I think, rivals the jag cichlid, surpasses the oscar, and have aggression to match. Thats one chunky RTBS right there! 15cm long? Nice gravel, I was thinking about using it in my 6ftr, but then again, with the black background it might be too dark.
  13. I have seen a lot of tropical tanks in NZ, but haven't seen any tropical ponds with some nice large fish. Has anyone got one or seen one here?

Sweet as, thanks for that. I might take up David first on his offer, but if I am in need of some extra dirt I would really appreciate your offer too. Cool, I will be here on sat morn. Yup, try and create a breeding pair for another forum member.

That'll be cool, drop me a pm when your coming, wont be around saturday night though. Also, I dont think I will take the female festae, but if your keen for the male I will give you dibs on him if you want it. Does anyone on here use the midnight gravel stuff? Pretty expensive gravel though, especially if you want to do a large tank.
  16. Yeah you can do ctenopomas, easy to care for but IME they are picky eaters. Look cooler in groups, try 3/4 of them.

Cool, I may take you up on that if I may David, will let you know I guess. Always fun experimenting with a tank look. Does anyone have a tank full of the midnight gravel stuff from that petstuff101? A really black tank would be interesting.
  18. The knifefish? No shouldnt be too bad, give it a hide spot, nocturnal anyway.
  19. I find that cloudy eyes generally clear up soon, if not, blindness shouldnt affect the fish too badly.

So what I should do is buy some builders sand, hope that it is the right texture and colour, if not buy some darker sand to add to it and mix it in?

Is builders sand as dark as that, or near to it?

I know, another post from me about sand, but I found the perfect colouration I would like and consistency. Does anyone know where I can get pretty much the same as this? cheers
  23. Hikari works fine, hikari cichlid gold/sinking carnivore, feed shrimp/prawn - all these will be eaten. Plus they go nuts for feeders, my old clown ate like 3 small goldfish and about 5 tiger barbs within a week once .
