  1. Yes please. The jag crosses are my favs. The JD and Vieja also gave good colour.
  2. My friend did. She passed the test then got sent to blenheim for like 8 months? Now she is in oz continuing her training to be a navigation officer on the hercules etc.
  3. Best chances would be with Amphilophus variants I would think? Try with anything I guess, you never know.
  4. fertile yes. genetically weak through inbreeding. a lot of stories of people just losing all the fry.
  5. Oscars need more than that; minimum 200L sources say, but I think they need more volume than that. It WILL stunt in that tank, no doubt.
  6. I wouldn't have thought that would be an issue? Width and length are more important imo
  7. Few generations in selective breeding and you should be able to generate a uniform silk colour I reckon. Could be worth the effort, High quality Fh's have high market prices overseas, NZ market would be small, but even so it would be a fun project.
  8. Thats a nice fish, colour pops. Definitely the best festae I have seen here. Geo Balzani came in? Must have been a while ago. Lost them last year, was so gutted. A temperature spike was the culprit I think. I have some new cichlids that I will put pics up of. Very blue, he's amazing. Streamers are very long.
  9. Yeah not much beats a real stunner specimen.
  10. Haha or all your fish Wee2 That Texas looks like a thug! Love the festae too.
  11. *brought out the colour nicely.
  12. Heya, this thread is for your favourite 'show' cichlid! Post a pic of the fish that really catches your eye! African, dwarf, S.A cichlids all welcome. Trying to liven up the forum a little.
  13. This pair might be able to produce thai silk strain given time, have some kickass blue colouration. Def should breed them.
  14. will be some quality fh strain i think. Shouldn't split them.
  15. I found GTs are skittish too, tbh, there aren't that many really agro cichlids in nz.
  16. Unfortunately I lost both midas i got off david in my tank disaster, got a new one though looks even better. Any festae available? Or pure white midas?
  17. Heya, was wondering what experiences people had with cichlids that really go for the food that aren't oscars or africans cichlids? I want something that is gonna feed aggressively in my tank, only one that does atm is a midas cichlid, how are salvinis? I occasionally do live feedings and want to make it a little more entertaining, bichirs don't exactly smash the food.
  18. Not allowed in country.

  20. Buenos aires tetras grow to a fair size for a tetra, look good and are super fun to feed with insects.

Well, turns out there is a massive freakin crack in the bottom of the tank! Now I need to replace the stupid thing.

So about a year and a bit ago I got my 6ft tank put in my room; it's not a solid floor but we thought the weight was evenly spread across the joists. Turns out there was water damage on the plyboard/chipboard floor base, this started becoming apparent when the tank started sinking into the floor :digH: So had to relocate all my fish to henwards place (SHOUT OUT TO HENWARD), then hired some guys this morning to move the tank while I was at uni. WELL WORTH IT. Tank is safely moved and on a SOLID FLOOR. With over a tonne of weight when filled up it is critical that it is put on a stable base. Also, the benefit of a lino/tile floor is unmatched. Hopefully the transition of all the fish back in will go smoothly, fingers crossed! We learn through mistakes after all.
