  1. the top one looks the most pregnant. you can also tell by looking at the back and the darker it is the more pregnant they are. IMHO
  2. My bristlnose don't touch it either. comes off quite easily so I use the gravel cleaner to syphon most of it off the gravel and plants. the bits on the glass I just wipe off. Annoying but cleans the tank up a bit.

    REALLY WEIRD

you are all wrong it is Melanoma
  4. you should feed them some baby daphnia and watch them try to eat them. it is really funny  especially when they are bobing up and down for them OOpps just realized you just lost yours
  5. instead of java moss I just used indian fern floating on top of the water and it is growing quite nicely. and the baby guppies hide in that.
  6. Remove the most water you can 50% should be sufficient. Treat it as a water change, you are only after the bacteria. temporary filter should be sufficient one of those wool and charcoal ones and use your existing media. you could only half fill the old tank. fish should consider it as moving from a lifestyle block to that of an Apartment block. have to make sacrifices
  7. Interesting deilema you have spooky. Ok what I would do is to move the old tank to your relatives. get that set up and then move your fish over with plenty of water from your existing tank and also move your filter across if you are using a canister filter, that way you will keep the bacteria in your filter. unplug the thermo from existing tank and move that over to old tank. When it comes to moving back do the same. again. That way you don't have to cycle 8)
  8. Hi. I have some suggestions. Type of Filter. I would recommend the Fluval. 304 or 404. others may suggest otherwise but I have both and both have been running for the past 5 years. Changing Media. Not too often I have only ever washed my canister filter once every year, Ease of use. Very simple to do and clean as well. You will not need to change the medium unless the sponges are completely full and falling apart (once a year), Carbon will need to be changed if you do use it (once every 3 months). apart from that there is nothing to change Use of Airstone. Not necessary if you place the spray bar above the water line (problem is that it can get quite noisey) Continue use of UG Filter Yes untill bacteria is built up in the canister filter.
  9. Phillz I wouldn't worry too much about the fry. I was in the same situation as you were 2 weeks ago. I now have around 60 baby guppies swimming around in my tank and I think I am expecting more. havent done any major changes. Just kept the adults well fed. they grow really quickly too and I only use crushed flake.
  10. I would only start off with around 12 guppies to begin with 3 Male and 9 Females. After a short time I'm sure you will have heaps and heaps of guppies swimming around in your tank. I had 7 guppies to start with and now my 300l Tank has 60 baby guppies swimming around it
  11. you can adjust the flow by just turning the valves on the hose connectors. that would stop the whirlpool effect.

    L Shaped tank

I Agree with LB and Ira. Use a Fluval 404. with input at one end and output at the other end . to help with flow you can always add a powerhead in the corner. Internal plumbing would make things much nicer and easier to change water. I would say 2 404 Fluvals will do the trick quite nicely as I am using a 303 on my 300L Tank. With regards to Heaters you will need 100w per 100L. So if Iras calculations are correct you will need a 200w and a 300w to maintain the temperature of your tank. suggested placements would be 300 by the input and 200w in the other section. Happy setting up.

    busy forum

After seeing the poll on What it cost to get started into Saltie would frighten a few people away or motivate them to rob a bank or small country to get the finances
  14. Oh No. You now are about to catch MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome) Not by Want but by NEED.

    Filtration...?

makes it all better for us that need the good gear at a good price
  16. If it is white spot then it is best to use Whitespot cure instead. I have read in other helps that this is the best.
  17. Poll is really for Fresh Water Tanks I like using canister filters cause they are easy to maintain and clean and easy to hide. I've found Fluvals to be very reliable as well.
  18. Great work caryl. waiting by the mailbox cause i can't wait for it to arrive.

    Filtration...?

I think the 304 would be around $250 I think

    Filtration...?

I find that external canister filters are great for that. range from around $100 - $400. I personally like using fluval filters and the one that you will need would be the Fluval 304

    tanks

Fluval 304 will do the trick quite nicely
  23. place it in a bag you get your fish in and tie a good knot in it and send it as a parcel. courier could be cheaper than post for parcels.
  24. Caryl imagine what the stewardess would say if you had an icecream container full of white worms
  25. RnB I know of one freight forwarder who used to do a lot of import and exports of corals from the Islands and they are International Delivery Services located in Airport Oaks Mangere. have you considered getting a local fish club or Clubs involved with your project as a learning facility and help with your plans. even fund raising of sorts. Just a suggestion. Then you can also do freshwater imports.
