fish will be a bit lethargic and hang around the bottom of the tank and not move much.
fins will split or you will see red lines in the fins.
fungus will appear around the gills.
In all of the cases above it is best to prevent them by having regular water changes. at least 20% per week.
There is quite a range of goldies you can get

If you are on bore water then you should be sweet.
you don't need to leave the water to age. poor it straight into the tank.
Like Caper said it may be wise to invest in some test kits.
Nitrites, ph, Amonia
I feed my bn on a diet of JBL Pleco chips and a inch long piece of cucumber sliced into halves.
Cucumber goes in 36 hours and the pleco chips get eaten in 12hrs
they also like the odd discus tucker as well.
Best thing to do is to have the filter running in your existing tank for a week or 2.
You can fill your tank with water from an existing tank and use it straight away. as long as you do regular water changes in new tank you will be ok till your filter is ready.
You could be right Caryl.
Ballistic smokes like a chimney in that room so I wouldn't be surprised if the poor krib has got cancer from Second hand smoke
Erythromycin
This is an antibiotic that is selective in what it Kills. Not a broad spectrum antibiotic like Augmentin
Then again if you are not treating the algae with fish in it then I can suggest you could use any type of antibiotic to kill the algae with.
I think the temp is a bit high at 30.4 degrees C. I only have mine at 28 degrees C.
Silly question here.... was the tank cycled properly or are you putting them in an existing community tank?
another thing you could do is to take out some of the water from the tank they are now and mix it with the water in the new tank...
I use gravel with my Discus.. then again they are in a community tank.
I use Glacier Pebbles which has a ph of 7.0 good for discus and it is white so shows up the colour
Don't send them a postcard.... unless you have someone to clear your letter box.. full letterbox means NO ONE HOME.
Timers are definitely the way to go... whats more is that you can plug in a radio as well so when the lights come on the radio will come on as well so it makes it sound like someone is home.
Have the timer to turn on at odd hours of the evening as well. Gives the impression the person at home has a week bladder or needs a midnight snack.
With regards to holiday food blocks... i use them and have had no problems with them.
Happy Holidays
What other fish do you have with your goldfish?
I have had experience with rosy barbs having a fetish for Goldfish meat... (No more rosy barbs now )
If the water changes are not regular the fins of the fish will have red lines running through them and the fins will begin to split as well as the area around the gills will tend to get a bit of a fungus.
Since you are doing regular water changes this should not happen.
Good to hear that the rash has gone away.
