  1. ooohh this is useful...Mods should make this into a sticky under the Cichlid section methinks (if it's not there already) Also - it would be helpful if we could have a list of people that we buy some meds from (legally) because not all vets know much about Discus and no point in wasting a $60 consult fee if they can't help
  2. how big are your snails? I found it took a while for my 10 chain loaches to take down Ramshorn snails but they couldn't consume the larger (big oval snails) fast enough so I added a couple of zebra/striated loaches which seemed to have done the job. You could also just use one of those snail traps that you empty every morning if you're worried about loaches eating small fish fry? hth
  3. nice...how tall do these grow? I'm wanting some hardy plants for my Angel tank as I suspect mine are nibblers judging by the look of my Java ferns so far
  4. dying to have a nosey at your pics
  5. man I wish I was home enough to feed mine that often  can't trust anyone else to feed them either. I had my 1/5 life crisis the other week when my 2000L/H filter stopped working at night spent 3 hours fixing it then finally got it going again - especially it was for my Discus tank and I know I tend to overfeed. REALLY wish I had a barebottom tank then
  6. hey there's no rush LyndyLoo - it's sitting sweet on my counter When you do dose - do you put that 20ml all in at the same time without diluting it first or do you gradually add it with water? I always gradually add my Flourish with every bucket of water I put in just to dilute it down a bit
  7. haha wow they look like little fattys
  8. there's definately a few companies overseas that do a job aquascaping for rich lazy people, I use them as ideas...and you should leave it for it while (I change my tank around every 5/6months) b'cos it does stress your fish out a bit unless you don't have fish in it
  9. aww sucks to hear that! hope they're getting better...have they all gone dark in colour too? I have never had this happen to mine - how much of Leaf Zone did you add? I half my Flourish Excell dosages all the time just as a safety precaution... keep us updated By the way I've still got the tubiflex worms for you..anytime you want them
  10. tried glosso...have loaches says it all...uprooted in no time
  11. definately real plants would liven your tank up! tree root look is easy...but might lower your pH if you're not fussed take before and after photos!
  12. I got bored with my 2foot livebearer tank so quickly sold it to fund my Discus project a year ago...now I'm getting bored with my Discus tank so I'm setting up a 200L Angel display tank. I sell and buy compulsively...
  13. I can vouch for him too - made us two tanks over Xmas decently priced too! My mum wanted me to ask him to make her some cabinets after she saw my tank lol
  14. does it have a little fat belly and not eating? Could be constipation?
  15. the world's getting too PC now, my mate who came back from California said their adverts over there are so PC and over the top that it's not funny. Our ads over here would be considered racy compared to USA
  16. hey Vee - it's good that your bluey (from the pic I'm guessing) isn't a fussy eater have you post'd pics of your bluey yet?
  17. thanks for the feedback peeps won't be long until I get bored and renovate again haha RochelleMay - I have Autumn harvest (sml-med grain) as my gravel, they tend to illuminate the tank more is my theory lol
  18. but would that affect the fish in a bad way? decreased circulation and all?
  19. it doesn't look like dropsy 'cos the scales don't look like it's sticking out...almost looks scaleless! Looks like it's full of air poor thing
  20. with a CO2 system will I have to increase the aeration? To be honest Fishybiz gave me those giant Java fern plants - the smaller and darker leafed Java fern next to them are my own ones, don't know whether it's a diff species or just grown under diff conditions. But that giant sword in the pic is sprouting a new leaf twice a week just on the fert balls alone
  21. nope no CO2 at all - just fert balls by the roots of the swords and dosing of Flourish Excel WHEN I figure out how to install a CO2 sys I will lol - not very technology savy
  22. really? I'll tilt them tonight. Does it make them cheaper to run in winter as well? lol...wishing anyway. I only feed those Angels twice a day one pinch each time and they're constantly fat - no idea how they maintain it  I'm thinking a dark substrate with Val and various swords in the background for the Angel tank.
  23. Phoenix - Yeah the Sag is already spreading runners (I admit I melted some by accident by waterchange being too hot - but growing back nicely lol)! Can't wait for them to lengthen a bit to make the Discus stand out more and to hide those ugly filter tubings  Thanks Paul - Dave can probably tell you how snappy I get while I'm renovating lol but the final result is worth it get a big satisfaction out of it!
  24. Well thanks to Phoenix and Fishybiz, I was finally able to renovate my tank a bit today with some sag and java ferns: a photo of some of my Discus - hard to get all of them to stand still These are my new Angels that I'm currently setting up a 200L display tank for:
