  1. The lights on the juwels are fantastic. Evil_Elmo on here did grow glosso under standard lights, but he did say that it was much better after the powerglo upgrade. Don't get discouraged though; lights are the one thing that won't limit what you can grow in that particular tank as most plants will be quite happy with them. Crypts will do wonderfully if you add some JBL balls to the substrate.
  2. Not to my knowledge? We usually only ever have one or two members bringing along surplus fish to sell / trade. We've only ever had one trade table meet with plenty stuff for sale. It would be great if you sent James an email with some ideas.
  3. Oooooooo you mesn hecklii? I thought you meant threadfin rainbows.
  4. Hello everyone! We will be having our get together on Sunday June 26, 2011 at the Highbury Whanau Centre at 1pm. This month we will be talking about the conference that I attended and what we can do as a club for the rest of the year. James has created a poster that he would like us to see and we can talk about hosting an event for surrounding FNZAS clubs. James had a fantastic idea of having a trade table where we can all bring along surplus plants, fish, equipment, tanks etc that we might be able to sell on the day. Also a friendly reminder that your subs for 2011 - 2102 are now due. Look forward to seeing you all there, and please feel free to come along if you do not already know us!
  5. They will allow higher value items to be imported without duty as well. An old flatmate purchased 2, USD4000 laptops and they decided $100 in import duty was sufficient. It is important to remember that they can if they choose to do so apply customs duty to any item that allows for it. In general if you purchase something for yourself and it is intended for private use; they won't care less. I dare say they have bigger fish to catch! :slfg: I travel quite a bit and customs has never bothered telling me I have 1 or 2 bottles of alcohol too many and I need to pay duty on them. In the same way I get stuff sent over from other countries more often than the average joe, and the only time I ever had a problem is when one MAF seized one of the packets that said "add milk" as instructions for a recipe. I called them up and they laughed, because they thought it had milk powder in it.
  6. Make sure you take pics! How many threadfins will you have in total (eventually)? 100 would look great. Maybe 20 females and the rest males.
  7. If my smaller fish ever die in the tank; I leave them to be eaten as well. It's either that or they get shrimp! I had a pretty good day today. I had the urge to get a new laptop so I went and bought a Toshiba that I liked. It has the second generation i5 in it, so it should last me a few years. My old one was bought when I first went to uni in 2006. I might sell it for $200-$300. I got a pretty good deal on the new laptop as well, but buying it means I wont be putting new wheels on my car
  8. It's mainly cajeput? oil I think.
  9. Also - the other day I took these videos. You can watch them in 720p!
  10. They look totally different :slfg: Very very easy to tell apart. __ So today. I woke up and had a coffee, showered, got ready etc etc. Then I studied till about 11am and went to Massey. The bookshop was closed so :an!gry so I went back into town and got new batteries for my financial calculator. Then I went back to Massey and studied till 1pm. Did lots of calculations. Then at 1.30pm I had my exam and I was done by about 4.30pm. I wrote 21 pages excluding all the calculations which is a lot considering its a financial planning paper. I nailed all the numerical questions but about 40% of the paper comprised of 2 long questions that were very similar but had totally different answers, so I really hope I didn't mix them up. Then I got home and put new sheets on my bed and cooked a roast chicken with potatoes and butternut. Also took some pics of the tank and the plants while I was waiting for the chicken to cook. Now, here I am! Might go out later, but still undecided.
  11. Beautiful! That's how African tanks are meant to be done!
  12. Depends on what sort of upside down catfish they are. Syno euptera get big and are also sold as upside down catfish. The other is syno nigriventis (spelling?) and stays small.
  13. You might find your plants will grow marginally better without a bubble wall. Those 980s have great little lights for most undemanding plants.
  14. Minus the glosso; I'd give it 5 weeks or so. 3 weeks or so if you buy pre-established plants and you have the lights and CO2. You won't get all of those plants here, but something relatively similar will be doable.
  15. I didn't think that they would do it in an aquarium. But someone's gotta be breeding them in this world!
  16. They laid eggs today  I like them heaps. Im thinking of getting rid of my discus and having only what's left and about 200 cardinals.
