  1. ha ha yes. and shock, all mixed in one. how does it work? isnt the lollipop stick made of paper? or is it plastic that can bend and break the impellor? or is it too small to do that? kiwi ingenuity aye?
  2. i love making my fish fat. i have a convict that eats and eats and eats. then sits at the bottom and comes up for more.
  3. want some of rusty's poop? I'd love to know what amounts of what he is absorbing.
  4. oh noes. that sucks. sad about this restaurant too. looks like his luck ran out 26 years is pretty impressive, must have been a big fish.
  5. yea... what he said. i still dont know what the white dots are... are they big enough to take a pic of?
  6. have you tried putting him in a fish bag, stressing him out and then putting him back in the tank after a while? theory is the fish will poo out of sheer fright. its worked with me. drastic i know, but im sure you can try it if you need to. i had a bloated or bloated looking fighter that i shook around for a while PS- DONT FEED THEM SO MUCH ha ha

    help

dont use that stuff to raise the pH. sometimes its not the pH its how the change is brought about... you can keep fish in all sorts of weird pH but then a sudden change in the pH can cause badness. it muddles around with how the fish sense the ions in the water. what's the nitrite in the tank like? (mind you if you have used ammo lock the readings will be false).
  8. I don't know what the white dots are. I need a sample and a microscope
  9. planaria! im growing them at the moment. as we speak, one has shoved its head or tail (cant tell obviously) into a pellet of fish food. apparently they are harmless, and come in a tank when you overfeed lol. if your fish are happy then i wouldnt worry. some fish like eating them too, but your fish are pretty big so i doubt they would want to hunt down planaria.
  10. I have done it with monster fish... and not with the smaller fish. when you look at the breakdown of proteins etc, its not too bad... but some fish are better at being able to assimilate the constituents of cat food than others. the most crucial bit when feeding small fish, is the effect of cat food on the swim bladder. ive often in the past fed malnourished giant fish cat food (eukanuba) with great results. Aros and gars love it. (even birds that have plucked them selves, or have no feathers can be fed cat food to promote feather growth).
  11. the stuff virtually lasts forever, so you wouldn't have to worry about changing it for at least a fair few years... having said that it costs a fair bit... but the results are clearly visible. nemines - i love the rimless tank - i didn't think many ppl in NZ had them, and the plants are so healthy!

    help

= weird ammonia problems. WC's and lots of them will help. (salt is a good idea too, but i bet you have already done that with Stress coat)
  13. nitrazorb is a filter additive, nitraban is a liquid supplement. this purigen thing sounds good. i presume you mean african cichlids? cause if its S.American cichlids you could add a huge pile of plants in the tank.
  14. ah one of those.. i know the ones. sorry oeminx i know not where to acquire such acquisitions
  15. yes. do water changes, and then do them again... but if you have to use a product "nitraban" works well.
  16. yes. feed them. if you were in palmy.. i'd volunteer to feed them once a day.
  17. now im going to sound like an idiot, lol.. whats a PL tube?
  18. its pretty easy.. use a gun if you can (not the bullet kind  that would break the glass).. makes life that little bit easier... keep a sharp blade on hand just be careful not to scratch the glass.
  19. I thought the 620 had 2 separate t8 tubes? does it?
  20. The leaves on my plant grow about 45 cm in 2 days! not sure about the flower stalks though... if thats what it is. :bounce:
  21. WOW. I've seen the bulb-root thing before, but never the bud like thing. looks very cool - you must keep us updated with pics every day - maybe even twice a day judging by how fast the leaves grow :bounce:
