  1. i started using 18000K t5 Ho's and within a week there were leaves touching the top of the tank.. now there are about 5 leaves that are about 50+cms long with nic broad leaves on the stalk. and all the sagitaria subuluta has flowered like a garden. best move i ever made for my tank!!! :bounce: the lotus sprouts a new leaf every 2 days, and it takes about a full day and a half to get to about 30 cm in length.
  2. i like schwartzi's (spelling???) the best!
  3. yep! ill post one after work (5pm) today.
  4. awesome.. lol.. that and 2 fluval 405's on a 200L tank tends to help
  5. you took the better care of speedy than anyone else out there ever could have. here's a virtual pat on the back *pat! pat!* well done. reading back its amazing to see how well you really did take care of him.
  6. Killies you say? Oh you must join the NZKA - NZ killifish association. I get brownie points for every person i recruit  only kidding But welcome! :bounce:
  7. yeah i agree! i mean you dont need a hyper lori! lol infact its one of the last things you want!!! haha fruit has plenty of natural sugar. Just remember ,, no avocados.
  8. YES.. they like insects. Rusty-Ruu eats cicadas. crunch crunch crunch. but he has to catch any thing he wants to eat that isnt dry mix and wet mix, and home made stuff like smoothies.
  9. awesome! i shall ask her. Rusty says hello, and that he does not shed feathers into any ones food. Im getting very worried about leaving him behind. we do not do well with separation
  10. *vivid imagination. ive tried that before with custard powder. interesting things happen ha ha.
  11. naah. its all powdered up. they dont eat seeds etc. they are nectar eaters. that and dry mix. which if made right has lots of pollen, honey etc etc goodness in it.
  12. killies? awesome! you can also join the NZKA :bounce:
  13. guilty as charged lol. i feed them too much hikari. i like having fat little piggies. I usually do water changes once a week. sometimes 30% .. sometimes 50%.. sometimes i just let the water drain from one end and let it fill from the other. its all very random. fish are strong.
  14. vey very reasonable. cheap even. i use it with flourish and flourish excel. its great stuff. contains the trace elements you need. plants love it... so do fish with hole in the head disease. you mix it up at home (just like in chem class minus the explosions, and burning benches ). PMDD - Poor Mans Dupla Drops. PS- if you google it, you may want to google "PMDD fertiliser" and not just PMDD
  15. yes. Wellington has a fair bit of Cl in the water. Prime is a cost-effective way of Cl- removal (if you cant wait and let the water stand overnight) cause it's super concentrated, and you only need a tiny bit each time. costs a fair bit though.. but works out cheaper in the long run.
  16. 1 hr drive? is that with the Ferrari or without? (I thought it was more like 2hours). I'm keen on staying in Napier for as long as i can... its prob. my favourite place in the country. If i stay for the dinner what's my friend gonna do? can she pay her way?
  17. so who else is coming? I should be there with one of my friends on the Saturday. but since I have assignments due in for Uni, ill be heading back to palmy that evening.
  18. very thick skin.... pays to be slightly deaf too hahaha
  19. no idea about rehoming places for birds. trademe seems popular for those sort of things. wanna bet? some lorikeets can be pretty bad... oh PS - there are some really nice lorikeet videos on youtube.
  20. test your tap water for phosphates too.
  21. thanks gem. A lorikeet or any bird for that matter who goes upside down and exposes the belly for a human is extremely tame and trusting! I rehomed rusty cause he used to be a "problem" bird and went from house to house until he came to mine he is good now.. but it took time... a lot of time. that bubble and squeak lorikeet sounds great!
