  1. strong current works in giant cement tanks in asia.
  2. its what people do with discus. works but its a total pain doing wc's everyday. you shouldn't have problems bulking up those fish even with water changes once or twice a day. feed em home made beef heart mix with garlic and thyme, and hikari. :bounce:
  3. OH WOW/ that's awesome. didnt realise you had already made the conversion to marine already~! :bounce:
  4. ha ha im sure  they were made to bend to a certain extent - so even when they are not under water and heated, they bend more than your average warehouse bin would if it were made to the same shape.
  5. the heater guards are made of a more malleable plastic.. that is if i can call it "malleable"
  6. the smaller ones are about 5cm, the larger one about 8-9cm maybe a bit more. the large one is cool - he hand feeds and lets you scratch his head, lol
  7. I'm sure ive posted these before  but these are my favourite pics of my guys:
  8. We used to have a flock of about 15 in our backyard in birkenhead, on aucklands north shore. them among the other introduced parrots. the damage they did to our fruit trees was negligible, and they mostly destroyed fruit we wouldn't eat any ways. the albany chooks on the other hand, were not allowed to be uplifted from the area, and new ones were not allowed to be left there. way to eradicate them - do not let any one take them away or re home them. sometimes i wonder who the brains behind these projects really are.
  9. everything you know about them would be awesome, lol. im sure ppl that have kept them will add more info
  10. There are. more than just a couple from memory.
  11. *sigh. I just went and drooled over that tank some more. :bounce:
  12. lauren, you must start a thread with pics pf your setup and puffers etc. I'm very interested to see what they are like and the habitat etc. :bounce:
  13. desexing a gecko. in theory it can be done, but risk of anesthetic means that the animal would have a high chance of not coming out of anesthesia. local may not be an option either, its too small. I don't like culling either. if the offspring have something wrong with them, take the hint and know that this is natures way of telling you that something is being done wrong
  14. I like that golden severum. looks incredibly happy, lol.
  15. nice plant though. but i haven't seen it either. Next time i order plants ill read all the names and see if this appears on the list thing.
  16. value for money? I think not. its funny, another member on here and I were just having a laugh about the price yesterday (or was it the day before). If you want to spend that kind of money on a tank - get one made for you and customise it as you like. the rocks are very cool though, as are the discus. if you want to go for the minimalistic look you can easily achieve that for less than 1800-2000 with brand new equipment. you may even be able to squeeze in MH's if you don't shop around for prices. and if you want to spend 2K then you will get the best of everything.
  17. :bounce: Rusty's happier already, lol. But what I really don't get is why people would release their pets! how stupid do you have to be? If auckland hasn't banned them i find it very hard to see how/why the waikato is banning them. PS- there are a fair few lorikeet breeders in the waikato aren't there? perhaps if they are banned, a petition may help.
  18. so you have to paint all over again?
  19. striated look. definitely striated look. :bounce:
  20. *snort. they can dream on, lol. ... they MAY pose a threat to native species. Just like human beings may pose a threat to native species when they buy rural properties. tsk tsk.
  21. wow. he has some very interesting colouration. nice oscar you got there.
  22. was that "...excellent..." like a Mr. Burns evil excellent? eeeexxxcellent....
  23. it will be negligible. make sure you have boiled it though.
  24. lol. that's awesome. i remember seeing pics on the net a long time ago with this tank that had oscars and neons etc in it, and the smaller fish were not troubled. you must post pics of this friendly oscar. I know oscars are very intelligent, mine used to recognise me (as many other owners on the net) - and knew to stay far away from mum, lol.
  25. yes you can. they are very peaceful. the may get slightly territorial when they breed but if you provide them with a hideaway they will be fine.
