  1. apo. undulatus. get used to it. that plant is a total weed.
  2. Yes, that sums it up. It's kind of like those lights in the supermarket that make the red meats look more vibrant and red. Also, red plants go mental under powerglos. Not so much under any other ones.
  3. You can't use normal T5 tubes in a HO unit. You risk damaging / runining the unit and you won't be covered by its warranty. Each T5HO tube produces about 93 lumens /watt irrespective of the size of the tube / hood. It is possible to grow glosso under T5HO with day spectrum HO tubes that are about half the price of powerglos, but it is faster to use powerglos, and the plants will do better under them. search evil_elmos posts on here for a juwel tank he grew glosso in. Juwels also use T5HOs but because of patents they just call the technology something else. e_e also opted to switch to powerglos after a while. I too have grown glosso under a 24x2W T5HO with powerglos and the results were great. The glosso grew at the same rate as with my 70W MH (6500K). The deeper the tank, the more lumens/watt you will need to penetrate the light. At the moment the best for that is T5HO/VHO; LED (unaffordable); and MH.
  4. The heater should be unaffected (hopefully) but you definitely need better multiboxes. The stuff from the warehouse is ok in my opinion, and I use them on my tank. But when it comes to precious stuff like my computer, I use ones from Dick Smith with a surge protector.
  5. High output PL tubes. Won't be all that bright. A stock T5 unit will be better.
  6. what about the warranties and stuff? 3 years on both, or just the eheim?
  7. You need stem plants; maybe more driftwood.
  8. I wouldn't recommed a sun conure as a very loving pet. They are good. Then they become teenagers. Kind of like lorikeets. They need people with a very very strict set of rules and personality to handle them well. Real PITA at times. What about an Alexandrine? I would definitely get another one if I had the chance.
  9. Quakers are very very affectionate birds. Apparently they make great pets, so says the lady I know who breeds all sorts of birds and helps organise the Feilding bird show.
  10. I know of a breeder. They're not too expensive. I think they are either $400 or $800
  11. real cheap too! I hope he goes to the biggest tank there is.
  12. Yeah, then there is the biting, screaming, squaking, mimicry, chirping, tweeting, scratching, digging, chewing, destroying. I'm amazed at how many people don't train their birds and keep them mentally active. Solves most of the problems in their tracks.
  13. so are you planning on a maroon belly conure? the sun conures are beautiful but don't make the nicest pets.
  14. I want a couple of them too! I saw 2 at the Feilding bird show. Think they were $1200ea.
  15. pH is spot on 6 according to my pH test kit.
  16. ha ha I'm not sure it is a prank. I mean how incredibly sad a life does one have to lead to try and get to me like that? On the chance that the inquiries are genuine, and they very well could be as there are many out there that are given wrong information - at least we have helped
  17. Thank you. Would not have a clue I know the pH is either 6 or 6.5 - ill check tomorrow again, but I haven't done a water change in forever. Usually just top up the tank with water as it evaporates.
  18. The tank basically has only crypts, some aponogetons, and Rotala rotundifolia with a few sprigs of Hygro. polysperma sunset. Lighting is 1 x 18W 6500K CFL No ferts in the gravel. Never gravel vacuumed. Filtration is an aquaclear HOB with filter wool in it, and a sponge filter sponge over the filter inlet. Admittedly the plants were initially grown under 2x 36W T5HO @ 18000K yes, there are 3 pots in this tank Male Female Tank
  19. awesome stuff! I'm sure barrie will be happy to know more killies are being bred
  20. have you tried bloodworms or something like that?
  21. albino bichirs look like sausages....
