  1. Also you may not need to use the air pump if you are going to be using co2
  2. How often do you find the water level in the sumps dropping from evaporation and you have to top them up?
  3. Ive noticed that when ever i start a new tank, it goes through algae cycles. It starts with brown algae when all the media has cycled through. After that, the brown starts to disappear and is replaced by a furry coat of green algae. the green algae then remains and fish feed on it occasionally. And I have my lights on too long each day, the green algae slowly grows into long stringy hair algae. so i does occasionally with flourish to keep it at bay. HTH
  4. yea that would work, you could also use an overflow box that siphons however it isn't as reliable as a drilled overflow
  5. Sorry for your loss. people who steal are utter losers. I wonder if it would be worth locking the forums so only members are able to view the posts, like other forums do.
  6. Thanks guys. I didn't know what it was and lps called it something starting with 's' but it wasn't Sagittaria subulata so i like to check with other people that have it first before labeling it. lol its obvious isnt it. they have been in the same tank beside each other for a week. Ive seen something similar in a tropheus setup and the fish kept it neatly mown(don't know where they kept their lawn mowers, they must do it at night  ) so thought i might try this out. im going to propagate it throughout the tank and let it settle in for a few weeks before i add the tropheus. hopefully it will have enough time to root in so the fish can't pull it out.

Wow that is a lot of dems what do you do with them all?
  8. Pet shop thinks they are the same plant but one clearly looks like a grass and the other is a long leaf. I'm wanting to make a carpet out of it as long as it doesn't get too tall. it is currently at 5cm tall
  9. I have thought about that and not going to put the heater in the pump area for that reason. http://www.eheim.de/eheim/inhalte/index.jsp?key=liniendetail_24552_ehen Which of these should i use for 900ltrs? Would 2x150W be enough
  10. They are 100mm apart. i was thinking of increasing the bio filtration and putting baffles along the entire length of it and no fry area. And also thinking about just putting the heater in the tank.
  11. That is true, What sort of bad stuff could there be in it?
  12. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=272819885 Would this be good for bio filtration? anyone use it?
  13. Come on guys and gals. just me n carlos chatting, or maybe me chatting to myself lol
  14. lol that was awesome even though you could see it coming  A great way to shine a light on my absolutely crap day . thanks for posting
  15. I didn't know puffer fish were here. Is that a small rock cod and a terikei possibly, maybe not. i havnt seen them unless they are at the end of a rod  and a lot bigger.
  16. Just turn ya hearing aids down and you will be right
  17. The bio media volume in that drawing is only 12ltrs. so this is why I put the heater separately as i thought i may be needing to add more sections for more media. The fry grow out space is not necessary so i can add more media along the entire sump. The whole sump is 900mm long, 300mm wide & 385mm high Filter bag section,100mm wide each bio filter section, 100mm wide heater section, 620mm long (jager heater is 500mm) return pump section, 180mm wide so leaves me with 520mm of space
  18. The reason for the heater being separate is because it will be a jager 300W and im not sure if it will fit in the main area yet. i still need to buy one and test it out. If there was no separate area for the heater, the empty space would be 300wide x 400long. Filter bags aren't proper filter bags and aren't as fine as normal ones. and they will be checked weekly for blocking & maintenance etc.
  19. Ive done plenty of research on sumps etc and have come up with this drawing of what i want to do with the sump for my 900ltr tank So im after any constructive criticism on the design and anything i could do better. I will also be adding pics of my progress on the sump as i go. Im not wanting a wet/dry tower in it as i need it to sit high enough up under the tank stand so i can add overflows to the sump to run further small fry tanks from it. Thanks. first view is a plan view, second is an elevation.
