  1. Sorry off topic a bit BUT, it looks like you might need to support the middle of the tanks stand. In the photo it looks a bit bowed or is it just the photo...?
  2. lol thats exactly what i do
  3. They are also good if you have a lot of fish and need to keep the oxygen up. You could hide it behind some plants or rocks.
  4. Keep the high light plants and replace the rotundifolia with macrandra  It looks awesome the way it is now no need to change it
  5. I dosed a little too much on flourish excel and now i ended up with only 7 neon tetras instead on 21. They kept dying 1 or 2 a day until i realized it was the flourish. I haven't lost any more fish since i stopped using it. so try not to add toooo much
  6. I'm going to experiment on an AWCS (automatic water change system) on my next big tank to reduce the 200ltr + water changes just to change 20-30% of the water. I'm going to be connecting into my main water supply and slowly dripping water into the sump, the drip is capable of 20-30ltrs of water every 24hrs, thats around 200ltrs a week. so on a 1000ltr tank its a decent water change. However this will depend on the mains water supply water condition, chlorine content etc. so maybe a filter before it enters the sump will be needed. The sump will have an overflow discharging into a drain or gullytrap on the house where the water will slowly drip into. Im unsure how well this will work but Im gonna give it a try anyway. Bn for algae crew. Don't feed too much. plenty of water flow. and it should be clean and clear.
  7. Google feeding white worms to fish. theres lots of info on there. people usually feed 2-3 worms per fish, depending on the size of your fish.
  8. White worm are easy to look after and only smell if you stick you nose in the container you keep them in  and i don't see why you would want to.
  9. You could use a spray bar above the surface or just increase surface agitation or add a venturi (spelling???) to the end of your canister output as it enters the tank.
  10. My cichlids don't seem to eat java ferns, anubias or vals. however the vals do get pulled out occasionally.
  11. They will breed but not as much as a species tank, they giraffes will eventually need a bigger tank. and dems a usually best to be kept in colonies. and yes they may be eaten by any fish bigger than them. however i have kept dems with any sort of malawis as long as there are hiding holes in some good rock work. malawis are mostly happy in a fully stocked tank IMO. they will be out more and not hiding so much.
  12. They do still seem to breed but less often if they keep getting interrupted by the other tank mates. their fry will most likely be eaten if you do not remove them im sure.
  13. Actually all the fish grew, a lot! And as they grew bigger, lumpheads and peacocks trying to spawn, the plants were pulled up, mosses ripped up, substrate all mixed together.it was in shambles so i pulled it all to pieces trying to get the bigger fish out. if i only had community fish in there, and not cichlids, it would still be the same. however the plants are doing great in the tropheus tank the tank is now sitting dry with no water in it Did i send you the guide? sorry i can't remember if i did or not.
  14. I reckon vuze is great, ive been using it for years, back when it was azureus.
  15. I use a bottle with the bottom cut off, flipped, and an air stone coming through the lid. I stop the air stone when ready to collect the bbs. leave for 10mins and usually the bbs will go to the bottom were i have the light. i then use some spare airline and push it to the bottom and siphon them out. I do get a little bit of empty eggs but not much. and i siphon them into a tissue over a cup and strain the bbs from the salt water. then i rinse in fresh water and feed. HTH
  16. you could also use an egg tumbler
  17. I'm sorry but i honesty think longfins look ugly But the spotted ones look awesome
  18. They should colour up after a while but they will usually be washed out more over lighter substrates or darker out of light so kinda weird that they faded with a covered tank :-? maybe keep feeding and wait a while to see. Why did you have to cover the tank?
  19. You can leave them in there. the parents usually won't eat them. convicts are great parents and will take good care of them. i just feed mine flakes and the parents would take the flakes and drop it by the babies so they could eat You may have to keep an eye on their aggression towards the other fish tho.
  20. That looks awesome. love the camo gear hes got on
