  1. I have 2x 300W and a 1x 250W Fluval heaters. I never got around to buying a new heater. One day I will get around to it. but what I have now works fine.
  2. I got a weipro from fish street and it stopped working after a few months :an!gry I don't see any problem with putting it in the tank apart from you have to look at it. My sump works just fine on my planted tank. the co2 is hooked into the return pump and goes into the tank perfectly. I actually found I had to turn the co2 down because it was too much for my fish. even with a LOT of plants in my tank to release oxygen. Definitely get the filter if you don't have the room or aren't ready to setup a sump. Sumps aren't Ideal for planted tank but they still work and are handy for a timeout tank or for acclimatising fish until their stress levels are low enough to add them to the tank. I wanted to get the exact same eheim but I ended up using a sump for the first time and I will never go back to a canister for tanks over 300ltrs. I only like canisters for smaller tanks where a sump would be too big. You can come around and have a look at my sump setup if you ever need ideas on anything.
  3. I have never had a problem with pH in my tanks. And I have never tested for it since I was first learning fish keeping. When the LFS says... "you need this... and this... and this". waste of money. Driftwood and plants keeps my tanks pH low.
  4. Ive been in houses that were borer bombed before and every time I just throw a sheet over the tank. I don't use bubblers but best to turn them off. When the bombing is complete, I opened all the windows and doors to air out the house and wiped down all surfaces I cook on etc. And wiped all the outside of my tank and equipment just to be safe. Ive never lost any fish from this.
  5. I just wanted a change. I get bored of looking at the same thing for too long. And I enjoy working in my tank and creating things.
  6. Lifting the hose doesn't do anything. the fuel shuts off at the nozzle, not the pump. and the hose is always completely full of fuel so you can only shake the nozzle to get the last few drops in the end of it. Fake rocks are good if you have problems with the weight of real rocks. If not then real ones are best IMO. petrol is the best to melt poly, just make sure you clean it well after.
  7. With plecos or bristlenose in there you might find the riccia goes everywhere, if they leave it alone it will look awesome. They made a mess of it in my tank. Otherwise I can see this is going to be a great looking tank
  8. I have ditched the messy jungle look to my tank and made it more simple. I only have half the amount of ferns in there now. And before anymore people ask for plants, they have already been given away Your too slow. This is where its at now... The water is still very cloudy but should clear up in a few days also will take a week for the plants to stand back up. Next weekend I will be going to get some sand from the beach to cover the gravel.
  9. It is a Snowball Pleco LDA33 After a good clean out of all the plants.... ...this is all I found of the missing Snowball Pleco :tears: , I think it is the pectoral fin bone?
  10. Big change happening here this weekend. This is what the tank looks like at the moment... And now I can see what fish I have. Unfortunately I am missing one snowball, one blue phantom and a few chocolate zebras. No traces of them were found :tears: but on the positive side, I have 4x the amount of needle leaf than what I put into the tank. And my frilled and normal java ferns have grown huge compared to the little plants I put in. I will update with more photos as the tank changes.
  11. When I lived South of teviot street there were always things going wrong on my street, people getting stabbed, cars getting bottled and smashed windows, etc. not nice. If you will be studying then anything close to SIT would suit best. What are you going to study?
  12. I used pins with the ends bent to make a hook and pressed them into the poly background, hooking the rhizome and holding it down. When the ferns had taken hold, I removed the pins. My background was also cemented and had a layer of resin.
  13. It will be cold water so I guess it would stay close to room temperature...? so no condensation. Very cool viv
  14. My ferns are under more than enough light and grow very well. Only time I get leaves dying is when algae starts to grow on them. I just cut the leaf off and a new one grows back within a week. Never have BBA on the roots though.
  15. Nice. Good idea. I have a small tank I think I might attempt this with also. Might try something this weekend. Looking forward to seeing photos.
  16. My pup use to chew any cord he could find, until he found one that was plugged in... ...he doesn't chew cords anymore :sml2: Luckily it was just a laptop cord and low voltage. Still enough to teach him not to do it again. If only the sky remote plugged in :slfg:
  17. That happens when someone bids the exact same amount as your total auto bid. But because you bid first you win the bid and the other persons bid does not count/show. if that makes sense.
  18. Looks like a centipede x weta x caterpillar :sml2: Never seen anything like it before.
  19. Maybe the system hasn't updated to show when they were last on? idk
  20. You also have to make sure you gravel vac after 24hours of every treatment because if the worms do come out the fish can eat them again. Doesn't levamisole just paralize the worms, not kill them? so a gravel vac is essential.
  21. I used the exact same one on a gold fish pond as mechanical filtration before. Worked OK , needed cleaning a lot using the original filter cartridge. They do have a good output. I found out how much LPH it was once but have long forgotten now. It doesn't have a very good head height though. 600mm high? let me know if I am wrong. HTH
  22. that is very cool. Wish I knew of this when I started my tank.
  23. I think a good clear picture showing their colours will be the best to see. When I had auratus, they were very easy to sex with their colours. There should be an obvious difference in colours. Unless your fish are stressed from moving? how long have you had them and what size are they?
