  1. Yes that is a 50cm x 30cm massive bit of Narrow leaf Java Fern growing bigger every week
  2. There was a pic of a fish in it earlier... weird. Someone must have said something.
  3. I was thinking a shrimp as well. If your room temp could keep it up then it could be tropical. You can't really stop amateurs from buying it and trying it. They will soon learn. Some will give up and some may get a bigger tank and make a hobby out of it. :dunno:
  4. You could just drill a hole in the back where you want the filter pipes to come through? I have had an AR850 before and never had troubles with filtration, but I never had it overstocked so it was fine.
  5. HaHa I brought one for my desk. Not for fish though, I'm going to try a mini aqua scape at my work desk. I think it would be fine with a single fish with a daily water change.
  6. You could try googling Cichlid tank pictures and you can decide what you like the look of. I personally like a 1-2mm white gravel. It brought out the colours of my electric yellows with the lighting I had on the tank IMO.
  7. I have done a fair bit of research lately on setting up a marine tank for everything I need to know so I know what I am getting myself into before I start. After pricing up everything I have to save at least $5000 just for the equipment I want to use. So I could write something when I begin accumulating everything and begin the setup. I will of coarse start a new thread on here as well. Only problem is I will have to get rid of my planted setup which has been going so well. Only one tank can exist. Its a hard decision. Also with my partner wanting work done to the house makes it harder to save that 5k.

    Filter mat

I'm not that into sponges to want to read all of that but The German stuff is really good, it cleans easily, doesn't fall to pieces, and works for ages without having to clean it. I don't know about the para rubber stuff, hopefully someone on here that has used it can share their thoughts.

    Filter mat

I got some good sized pieces from here... http://www.swisstropicals.com/Poret%20Filter%20Foam.html
  10. Yea I have to stand on a small ladder to reach the bottom of my tank. There is only a lip on three sides so I could slide the tank on from the back. the lip is really just for looks more than a structural thing. If an earthquake hit down here it would break it and slide right off if it was a decent quake. The lip really needs to be fixed on quite strong. I have seen pics of a tank that had split the lip open at the joins because of an earthquake.
  11. Yes it is very strong (maybe two cars strong) especially when I added the ply cladding. I could of easily gotten away without the center leg but oh well. It is all just screwed together. its 2m long, 900mm high and 650mm wide
  12. you could use 100x50s for the corner legs, you don't have to use 50x50s. like this... also just a 100x50 as the center leg will keep it tidy and more room inside. (as above pic)
  13. Cool fish, and good size too.
  14. It must be hard not knowing what is wrong with her after having her for so long. It might not be temperature if it is always kept the same for so many years. Or she could be more sensitive to slight changes now in her old age. Maybe she is losing her slime coat in a similar way to humans losing their hair/teeth/sight/hearing in their old age.
  15. Here are some pictures of Sweety from other threads
  16. Managed to catch a few of the fish out today. Its hard to get clear photos, when the fish are deeper in the tank, with my camera
  17. All your Tangs in your big tank and a marine in one of the smaller ones. Heavily planted guppy tank in another.
  18. That stand looks a lot easier and nicer than mine did  good job.
  19. It Took about a week once and 2 weeks another time for my stuff. It can vary a lot.
  20. I have been away for the past 2 weeks for the holidays... Time for A trim I think, Lilaeopsis Zelandiae hasn't worked. BBA has taken over it even though it is spreading quite well. I think I will remove it and let the micro sword do its thing. The star grass was staying as a carpet when I had it trimmed before I went away but not so much now I also got a very small amount of rica that multiplied rapidly enough for me to try a small patch in the bottom left corner of the tank.
  21. True, I still have it. I was thinking about upping the light and co2 to my tank this weekend so I will probably add it back in soon anyway just to keep an eye on it and remove it again when I am happy with it.
  22. After a month of running my co2 and get the amount right I don't use the drop checker anymore because it is the same every day
