  1. I am using TUNZE Coral Gum. Just gluing them to bits of coral for now until I find out what the frags are and where I should put them permanently in the tank for best growth.
  2. I think I got some fish from the same place, Arrived with cold bags of water. 1 of the 5 fish survived. I don't think I will buy fish from there again, Which is a shame because they have a good selection. Corals seem to be fine shipped this way though, just have to acclimate them a lil longer.
  3. Yes to a point. The stacked rock around the overflow looks like it is leaning up in the corner but it is actually an inch away from the glass and fully standing by itself. The putty doesn't stick to the wet rock so well but you can mold it around the rock and when it goes hard in 15mins it holds strong.
  4. Thanks, I drilled holes, put in acrylic dowels and epoxy putty (Selleys Aqua Knead-it).
  5. bought some new equipment. -Kalkwasser ATO Reactor. -Dual GFO & Carbon Reactor. -felt filter socks (stops the bigger particles and snails etc from getting into pumps and valves). Better than my other socks that were too fine and was changing them every 2nd day if I scrapped the algae on the glass. Diatoms and cyano Algae has been and gone. I'm loving how quick this tank has cycled since I pre cycled the rock for three months prior. Every test reading I have done each week has said 0.0 on everything. I have added everything from my 130ltr and readings are still stable a week later. Bigger tank is so much easier than a smaller one. Here is the algae bloom. Added 15 catseye / turbo snails from my local rock pools and the algae is almost completely gone in a week. New reactors. Also raised the skimmer up two inches to better tune it. It was running very wet but now is runner better. I will update with a current tank shot etc when the lights are on next. GFO and carbon reactor is going. I still need to sort out a automatic electric top off system with pumps to dose the Kalkwasser. Currently I just use a float valve and ATO reservoir feed by gravity. My fish are so much happier out of the 130 now. Although I don't see the blue starfish or shrimp so much. Still waiting for the RBTA to move and find its spot but it seems to be happy where I have put it right in the middle of the tank
  6. Cliff's tank would be a good size. Also to convert to SW in the future. If you need any help with the sump setup, let me know.
  7. Looking great. :cophot: Plants definitely look healthy and growing well You need a bigger tank :fshi:
  8. I have the same as you with my tank. I use that one hole to have a full siphon controlled by a ball valve. and then I made a second overflow to catch the rest of the overflowing water like this... It results in a very quiet overflow Check out the page I got these pics from for more information http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-overflow/120.asp If you want to see it in action just come have a look at my setup
  9. Covered the overflow and hung the lights.
  10. I will be putting some sand in. I just have to find somewhere to get some from.
  11. Spent the good half of today redoing the rock layout. Im a bit happier with it now but still doesn't look right. Hopefully its just because it doesn't have any corals. Also made some brackets to hold the lights, just have to get some hooks for them. The work space And the current layout
  12. I tried that but I have too much rock. And I always knock the rock accidentally and scared of breaking the tank. I might get some shallow bins and fill them with water to keep them wet as I do it, and all on a tarp.
  13. I will sort the DSB out tomorrow, adding more sand. I will also hopefully re-scape the tank. Some of the rocks are so big its hard to lift them in and out with water going everywhere. Its going to get messy. I think I will do it when the girlfriend is at work.
  14. Thanks LA A bit of Bedtime reading
  15. This is why I post here so I can get feedback because this is all new to me. I don't mind algae on the glass, just not the front. I am going to remove all the coral rubble from the sump and add more sand. What would be a good depth for a DSB? It is 7-8cm at the moment.
  16. Yea that was my thought as well after I was looking at it for a while.
  17. I got all the rock in there and then stacked it up. I couldn't really see when scaping the rock because of the murky water. I'm not very happy with it so will keep playing around with it until I get it right.
  18. :iag: I am going to get an IBC eventually. Just gotta find somewhere to keep it first. Then I will have 1400ltrs of storage for water changes.
  19. Went and collect 600ltrs of NSW today. High tide was 7am so was up early. It takes 1/2hr to get to the beach (25kms) takes 15mins to fill my 200ltr drum then 1/2hr home again. I finished at 12 noon. It was a very windy and rough morning at tiwai. I am still waiting for the tank to heat up so in the mean time I put in the sump with its new layout and filled it with ASW. Filled the refugium with Sand and coral rubble. When the tank is up to temp I will add all my pre-cycled rock and get the water levels up to start the return pump. I still have to raise the skimmer to get the water level in the right place for it.
  20. That is what I am using. I just wanted to take advantage of the incoming flow and use it to point where I want it. I will also have 2x MP40w wavemakers in the tank too.
  21. Good point. I have a 4200lph pump on it. I haven't tried it with the loc-line fittings yet. They are 1/2' fittings and I have 2 outlets, I can add another 2 outlets if it is restricted too much. Or maybe I could tee off the return and have the loc-line off one and open off another? Your thoughts?
  22. This new sump design should hopefully work out a lot better. Here are the plans I have CAD drawn up tonight so I can cut the glass the correct sizes.

    NSW

Down South here I have to bring the water down from 1.028. It will cost roughly $20 - $30 in petrol to get enough water to fill my 800ltr tank (4 trips) Where if I used ASW it would cost $200 - $300 of salt from the LFS. And what ever it would cost to use up my RODI filter canisters.
  24. This tank is looking awesome, But I can see it is going to end up High tech, which IMO would make it end up looking even better. :cophot:
