Hey Joe. You have prompted me to get one of these going. Some good looking green water, great for those little daphnia and great for your Apisto fry when you get those going
You got some with eggs Jen? Our thoughts are with you guys down there. Unfortunately lost Hongsloi male the other day... Turned palish over night and dead the next day??? Other fish all ok... :-?
Nice Joe!. A few moons ago I used to work for a goldfish farm and we used to "seed" large fry raising ponds with daphnia. They were great for getting the young fry off to a good start. We used to feed the daphnia with milk powder as i remember.
Possibly.. I do remember there being another species of ant, possibly another native that was twice the size of these and a lot more bulky and more sluggish. They had the same yellow pupae but there was usually less of them in a nest to the ones you have pictured. Both these species I used to find regularly nesting under or within rotting logs.
I end up with heaps of them in the bucket with the mosquito larvae. I just stir up the muck at the bottom of the bucket and scoop it out wit a net and rinse away the mud and am left with plenty of bloodworms!
Hey Joe. They looking good, and yes pic 4 looks like my female . Along with Ryan's comments on food, I have been feeding frozen bloodworms, live bloodworms, mosquito larvae and fly eggs!. Good luck
There is only mum in there and I doubt the eggs would survive without her as there are numerous small snails in the tank....
Just trying to keep her well fed so she doesn't snack on the rest!
After doing a water change this afternoon I notice my pair had disappeared down a bamboo pipe so I had a look and sure enough there were eggs!. So happy I have a confirmed pair. Will put some pics up of the eggs tonight if they make it that far.
