  1. Cool Land_lubber!. What are you planning on feeding the fry?
  2. Thanks for that. My Agassizi's were at 26 so i guess i can expect a lot of males. At what age can you sex these?.
  3. Hey Jennifer. Just curious... What did you have your temperature at?
  4. I know what you mean Land_lubber. I took about half a day trying to catch my Agassizi female as she changed colour and blended in with the oak leaves. When I did spot her, as soon as she saw the net she would disappear. I ended up removing the oak leaves and managed to corner her. It wasn't long after that, that she died, right in line with Ryan's Apisto curse theory
  5. Sounds promising Land -lubber!
  6. Her behaviour should change dramatically if she is anything like the Agassizi. She will become very aggressive and will attack the male if he comes too close to her eggs. Fingers crossed she has spawned. Good luck
  7. Haha! Eels in the bath.... As a kid i remember running the bath and getting smelt run out of the cold tap... Apparently water was pumped straight out of Lake Taupo through a series of filters. We were permanent residents in a small holiday location called Hatepe.
  8. Maybe this could help? http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming ... from-worms

  10. Thanks Bilbo!. I have only got this far through sifting through old posts from the likes of yourself, Caserole, Hans to name a few... Of recent, Ryanjury and P44 have been so helpfull! . Still a way to go but hopefully we can get the double reds and other species "out there".
  11. Thanks for your replies guys... On a different subject, I counted about 40 double red fry all growing well!
  12. Yeah, I think i have seen the result of interbreeding at work! ....
  13. Great to hear P44!. Can you tell me if offspring can be bred with offspring? Or is this a big no no!
  14. So is your little female doing ok P44?. Maybe they are afflicted with something similar to this http://www.metacafe.com/watch/368631/fainting_goats/
  15. Interesting site for the apisto fans.. http://apisto.sites.no/page.aspx?pageid=53
  16. Gutted for you P44! I have so enjoyed your updated posts on this spawn and watching there progress. Hopefully your little fiery female can produce many more!
  17. Nice fish Ryan! I would be keen on trying to promote and keep our current and new Apisto's going
  18. Your fish measures up just great JazzyJeff! Nice fish an great pics!
  19. Yeah that was what I found puzzling Ryan. Plenty bred but yet they still died out. And still talked about in forums in early 2010 as still alive and well....
  20. A few years ago I used to work for a Goldfish Farm. During the frogs breeding season we would go out and catch in excess of 100 frogs in an hour simply with our hands and a plastic bag. There was also a small breeding population of whistling tree frogs in the same area and it was just magic to hear them calling! ( albeit an introduced species! ).
  21. They are a nice looking Apisto! And I also, and many others , I suggest will be in the que for the 'Apistogramma trifasciata. '
