  1. hi im just asking for a workmate do turtles in chch need to be hibernated if yes how do u do it? i have just explained to her the whole thing about " a reptile flourescent tube is not a basking light" she thinks her female needs hibernating because its hugging the heater all the time , they are red ear turtles
  2. u should be able to buy a replacement ballast from an elctrical supply store u mite have to take the old 1 in as there are heaps of type of bulbs and ballasts ask around on the forum i know there is some electricans on here not sure if they are in auck tho if they are mite be able to fix it on the cheap 4 u!
  3. a small internal filter could help to keep the tank cleaner but as other ppl have said before me goldfish need big tanks (its a common misconception they are fine in a small bowl or tank but this is plain cruelty and petshops should be fined for selling fish bowls) i would look seriously into rehoming (or buying a bigger tank or putting in a pond if finances permit) the goldfish and setting up a tropical tank with small fish as there is a wider variety of more colourful fishes taht would be at home in a small tank(a lot of these fish are easier on the wallet too) it is a another common misconception that tropicals are harder to keep than goldfish, this is simply not true(majority of common tropical fish aneway) the main difference is a heater which is not that expensive, the other being (as said before) goldfish are messy eaters and require effiecent filtration and more maintenance(cleaning etc). im not trying to put u off fishkeeping and im happy u have stumbled across this site as u will find out most of us here are happy to answer your questions and welcome you to the hobby , 1 tip i can give u is to read the threads marked 'sticky" at the top of every topic as some of these contain more indepth looks at things like setting up and cycling tanks also u shopuld watch out for a diesiese most of us have on here , its called MTS or multiple tank syndrome u will find 1 tank wont be enuff soon
  4. thats really good nice and natural looking i think when i make 1 for my big tropical tank later on in the year i will research rock formations and use thicker poly , i love the little caves that u have made

  6. this is the goldfish tank minus plants and goldfish sorry bout the quality of the photos my ph again the orange is more of a red in real life, kinda different from natural looking kinda looks like a bed of glowing embers and it reminds me of indira at the maze in hamner springs. its the same background in the photos above just is finished and painted and in the tank

    clown loaches

my tank was over grown with plants while they were fighting i also have 5 large bits of bog wood with holes and the like thru them in it. i have since removed 2 supermarket bags of trimmings of plants (it was a jungle in tere) i would like to get more but i can only find tiny 1s at fish shops where my two are rather large i wouldnt want the small 1s to get hurt has ane 1 had experience with small and big together?
  19. if u wanted to be really fussy about everything including the 'correct' moonlight spectrum u could try that lil shop half way down blenheim road that specialises in leds

    Brown algae

if u have enuff plants in there flourish will kill algae by making ur plants uptake more nutrients (which typically cause algae) thus starving the algae
  23. im 23 fav colour black interests music (metal), the fish my rabbits , car audio, diy electronics, philosophy new age theology( yes the search continues)
  24. the frogs are quite big i dont think the axies are capable of taking a limb off them ive had them bite my fingers plenty of times while handfeeding them its not painful and doenst seem strong enuff the axies are also wel fed so im guessing that helps, but yeah ive never even seen them interested in the frogs (the frogs will sit in or under the water for long periods at a time)
  25. yea i still keep them together no problems tho occaisonally a frog will jump on an axie will hunting flies and spook it u can tell this is happening when there is a lot of splashing going on lol!
