  1. i have found silaflex RTV clear to be stronger than the selleys wet area or u could buy aquarium specific stuff at 4x the price i think animates down here sell it. ifs its not bonding take it apart and clean the whole thing up and start again clean it with isopropyl alchol or meths it should work after that. note 4 acrilic it may be easier to actually glue it with acriclic glue than use silicone
  2. bromeliads need to be topped up with water i have the same 1 just left the moss on and wired it to mangrove root, they are also a tropical plant, so should be fine indoors unless ur house is really cold , they recoomend fertilising with a liquid feed 1nce a year during the growing season but note fertilisers are toxic to frogs i would recommend a weak foliar feed directed only at the plant. the flowers dont last 4ever but come back each year , i am after a another tillandsia called spanish moss but i cannot find it anewhere in chch except the botanical gardens and they wont let me have ane , if ane1 knows how to get it please pm me

i have a cf1200 i have had no problems with it, works good, although a workmate of mine who is on this forum somewhere told me she has had problems with hers , the ceramic motor shaft breaking i think.
  5. love the bromeliad looks gud in there
  6. i have seen a similar thing done with metal halide and a 1ft diameter pipe cut in half
  7. has ane1 used 1 of these? brought or DIY? could u share some experience with me . also are u able to use normal sand instead of coral sand?
  8. u can get mist systems 4 greenhouses but on a smaller scale they are expensive tho try searching DIY misters, i have an ultrasonic fogger it makes a super fine mist over the water , makes the tank quite humid, needs bout 5cm of water to work , also u need to hide them so critters dont walk over them a pile of large flat rocks would be ok, another thing is that they heat up the water really quick i donty know much bout newts but if they are sensitive to temp like axies i wouldnt reccomd it unless u have min 15l water in there, u can put it on a timer to come on 4 15mins every hr this way the temp doesnt rise too much
  9. instead of using potting mix use sand or seedraising mix as this has no fertiliser in it, u could then use extremly diluted liquid fertiliser a blood and bone 1 would be best look on the packet buy 1 with a low nitrogen value e;g N:2P:5:K4 as nitrogen based componds can be deadly 2 frogs
  10. clown loaches are snail eating machines ! , i had thousands of little snails in my tank till i got 2 clown loaches they clean them up pretty fast , i think u can also get snail traps edit : here is one on trademe i found just so u know wat to look 4 if u decide to go down this track http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 870110.htm
  11. u should be alrite after 24hours just sit some water in it 4 24hrs after that and tip this out before using it near critters as it gives off toxins whilst setting
  12. handy when u have small repairs or awkard shapes that wont allow u to use a big bulky caulking gun
  13. i have never seen frogs eat things underwater apart from worms but i have seen large tadpoles eat small frogs and frogs eat frogs, i have heard of them eating fish and such but i think its more of a just in case thing u wouldnt want ur frog to eat an expensive fish would u?
  14. just make sure the silicone is clear and it says safe 4 aquariums this means it has no mould or mildrew killer in it, all the coloured 1s will i use the selleys wet area 1 or the rtv 1 which is more expensive but beter, the selleys1 is about $10 and u will need a caulking gun (bout$3) if its really fine repair work u can squirt some into a syringe (without needle!) and use that
  15. bell frogs are a lot easier to keep than whisling tree frogs and are a bit more robust with children(frogs shouldnt be handled unless necessary and only with wet hands , also u should wash ur hands afterwards as they carry salmonella) u could get away with large goldfish or paradise fish. my frogs wont touch ane fish even minnows but as a rule of thumb they will eat anething thats able to fit in their mouth and they open wide (1 of my frogs ate a large green cicada) if u want to keep fish in there as well dont buy an exoterra tank as it is NOT deep enuff to keep fish bigger than minows in . with ur 80l tank u could get a piece of glass or acylic siliconed in the middle so half ur tank is water and u could place peat , gravel,or seedraising mix(not potting mix as this has toxic fertilisers in it) on the other side maybe plant a few baby houseplants in it, another idea is to get a piece of acrylic cut to the size of the top of ur tank then cut a large wavy hole in it, cover in fake grass(like carpet stuff) and silicone in at 3/4 the height of ur tankhave a few gap between this and the water with a similarly contructed ramp going down into the water (also grat 4 turtles) be wary with tadpoles they may be better off in a separate tank until larger frogs as fish will eat them as well as larger frogs also sometimes a large tadpole will eat a smaller sized frog. the other reason is feeding them is already a difficult job once they have left the water doin it in a bigger tank spreads the problem out more, i.e. wingless friutflys
  16. when i shift house or a tank is down my goldfish go on a "tropical holiday" as long as ur trop tank isnt over 25 i think its fine looks a lil wierd tho

    hi from spoon

i have pics in reptiles and my other tank picks are awaiting moderator approval
  19. if u were going to go with coldwater wand ur tank is that big why not a few small eels ? if ur tank isnt that big try paradise fish they can live in cold water and are quite pretty would be alright with bigger goldfish if u put a heater in ur tank and kept the water at say 22deg u could still keep ur goldfish and minnows as well as being able to get a few types of easy care tropical fish

    hi from spoon

at the TT meeting i was the was tall guy with glasses talking to wilson bout frogs
  21. i have a 50w exoterra heat lite on at nite its cool they think its dark its quite cool to see a frog floating in they water above an axolotl, im thinking about firebelly nexts but iwill have to do some more reserch into them as im not sure how big they get they would have to be big enuff not to get eaten
  22. my photos got removed as they were too wide i will repost when i figure out what the right size is and how to resize it, my frogs are around 10cm long full adult bell frogs too big for the axies to bother with and the axies are too big 4 the frogs to bother with . they do however scare eachother from time to time
  23. my frog/axolotl tank in the last photo its quite hard to c there is a black axolotl(mudvayne(the dirty wormeater)) under the frog if u look at the turtle calcium thing (the white thing) u can c his foot
