  1. they are pretty rare i have never seen a native frog in the wild only introduced species
  2. if u ever get really stuck for food buy reptomin its a pellet reptile food then cut a piece of really thin nylon dip the end in honey and stick 1 or 2 pellets to it dangle gently in front of frog and very gently wiggle it , a lot of the time they will go 4 this if they dont give it some more time, they may not be hungry enuff to eat a strange food. most ppl over feed there frogs for an adult bell frog 4 or 5 flies(or equivalent bug) once every 3 or 4 days if suffiecient , tho they will eat as many as u give them, this can be even less in winter
  3. i dont think it matters too much and average house will be alrite just dont put the tank near a window or draft place , they come from aussie remeber so a higher temp in summer isnt going to hurt them , and they live perfectly well outside here, a filter is not critical buy the best u can afford . u can get by , by doin regular waterchanges aneway , clean the gravel when u do water changes as sometimes when they shed there skin it ends up in the water. the frogs outside at the moment will be hibernating or getting ready to hibernate so a bit harder to find, frogs kept inside rarely hibernate but will slow down a lot in the cooler months

    An update

very nice must be a talking point in ur house
  5. awesome id like to know what colours the wires are i have a raidmax i want to use
  6. have turned it right down as low as it can go he seems fine today i will look into ways of reducing the water movement mavbe i can slow it down with a fine mesh
  7. u would want an old 1 unless u can figure out how to turn it on without using a motherboard
  8. very true, if u dont feel competent dont try mains wiring
  9. ok thats good advide i will turn the filter right down untill i put my background in (in my post in DIY) the top of 1 of the tree roots is right underneath the filter outflow and will spread it out a bit , he is eating fine and otherwise healthy so hopefully all is right , i was thinking itr must be hard swimming round dragging those heavy fins and then lifting them up to scare away ur enemy all the time i was thinking he was tired or lazy
  10. its a aqua 1 hang-on 300 the tank is about 25-30 l, the red betta would have more turbulence as the filter is on his side of the tank however the filter is turned right down to near minimum flow, the divider is called a' flow thru diviver and is basically a thin , rigid, clear plastic sheet with preforated 3mm holes all over it there is definatly not as much flow on the blue bettas side tho
  11. i came home from work 2day and thort the red 1 was dead , however he just started moved 10 seconds later and swam normally , i noticed when they 2 bettas were trying to fight through the divider (not injuring themselves) they showed off their fins heaps and puffed out the gills so they looked wider the red 1 would then back off sometimes swimming on a wierd angle but then he would go back to swimming normally for 5mins till he went back over to the divider 3 times i watched him step up and go face the blue 1 looking thru the divider and then he would back off 10secs later and swim to the bottom and roll onto his side like he was playing dead is this normall beta behaviour? bear in mind water quality is good both fish appear healthy(nothing visible anyway)
  12. the problem with computer fans is that they run off 12vdc , go to dick smith they or jaycar u can get fans of a similar size with run off mains power and can be wired into the lites saving the need for another powercord(a 12v transformer plug will also be large and possibly stop u from using all the sockets on a multi board) also it will need to have its own switch and need to be turned on and off when the lites are on (hardwiring a mains powered fan to the lighting circuit will solve this
  13. yeah it has killed it off in my goldfish tank
  14. i got them from 2 different lfs here in chch animates and another chain 1 pity my favourite stores didnt have them. they arent full size yet they bout 3.5cm from nose to start of tail
  15. i have stopped using it its a bit full on lol i cant believe how much the sword has grown
  16. axies are nearly full grown too big for the frogs to bother with and the frogs are too big for the axies to bother with tho it is funny when a frog lands on 1 acidentilly they get tangled and splash the water everywhere
  17. i also forgot to tell if u have bell frogs they tend to be rather rough with real plants so i use a mix of fake and reall liek the ferns in the pics are plastic these are just the fake 1s people have in there living room (just keep ane metal in them out of water
  18. i have water in the bottom it was meant to be part water part land but it didnt really work as the whole bottom got waterlogged there are two axolotls swimming around in the bottom as well as my 2 frogs
  19. this is my tank before i started using flourish excell this is it a few months later after having a huge prune and removing a smaller piece of driftwood
  20. pic of background in poor lite after topcoat of epistixx note i have cut out slot 4 divider (goin into my betta/minnow tank), and cut to allow hang on filter to fit
  21. i have two males in a tank which is separated with a divider here are some pics
  22. congrats on the first tank i have the same tank http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/frog-t ... 28719.html if u can pick up a fogger cheap id recoomend it ane more than $50 is too much it doesnt matter what brand they are all made by the same company in china (try ebay ). this is the effect u get from a fogger just remeber they will heat the water slightly so dont leave it on all day and u will need to arrange it so ur frogs cant get on top of it bromeliads look good and can be attached to wood spanish moss is another good plant but can be hard to track down other plants to get are in the baby house plant section at mitre 10 warehouse etc
  23. i have a euroveiw 90 its a great wee tanks its 3ft long but is extra wide and deep holds 204l only problem ive had is condensation leaking out the top front of my tank and running down the front , This is only because my floor is not completly level so the front of the tank is a lil lower than the back otherwise it wouldnt be a problem, another thing to watchout 4 is lights make sure u get full length tubes , 3ft not 2ft it may be a lil more $$ but u will kick urself later if u decide to go planted , why im telling u this is that a lot of the lite fitting thatr fit this tank and clicp on the ends will only have 2ft tubes ur better off getting 3ft even if they are just sitting on top (i use the corner cutouts on the glass lids 4 feeding aneway)
  24. i got my epistixx clear today im suprised with it its an unusaul product, 1 part is clear the other yellow when mixed together it goes a milky colour and quite thick though i think it woulkd be more fluid on a warmer day, also interesting to know its a waterbourne epoxy and can be thinned with water up to 40% for basecoat and 20%topcoat, clean up when set is with xylol tho. im also sure u could mix this with normal acrlic paint to colour it , it does go on alrite over top just have to be careful not to brush over it too many times as it softens waterbased paint underneath, simians dry ragging works really well
  25. spoon
