  1. is that tank in the link the 6ft? must be really big fish :nfs: they just kind of made the tank look small thats all
  2. its so u can run them off 12vdc
  3. they are big fish id personally have a bigger tank
  4. lol had to laugh at that but have a look at the seachem site apparently when sodium thiosulphate reduces chlorine compounds it can produce ammonia so seachem prime also contains an ammonia binder http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Prime.html
  5. dse is useless now they dont have any decent electronics stuff any more
  6. they were mounted i used the dse ones and some from a chinese lighting shop here in chch which looked identical. will probably use a mr10 style blue led fitting next time
  7. when u take it apart grease the o- rings with vaseline it may just be a compressed o-ring , which by the way most likely wont leak any water but may suck some air in
  8. perhaps a long shot but worth a look if you cant pinpoint it. are the fans working at the right temp? sometimes the temperature sensors get corroded or gunked up and dont activate the fans causing the car to overheat when stuck in traffic, you can normally clean them up with a wire brush. sometimes they can be intermittant like how you are experiencing
  9. para rubber (currently closed but back up soon, according to their website) sell open core foam you could get it and cut your own
  10. quite a few people like them http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24066&hilit=conch+rsm this is a good thread though its 74 pages long there are a few mods detailed in here also that can make them better but in saying that i know of people that run them stock standard also
  11. everytime i brought strips like this, they never lasted long a few leds would go out after a month and then they would slowly lose intensity and more leds. i used to use a 15w t8 moonlight it was a special reptile moonlight bulb was about 15 bucks worked well but a bit too bright

    Power bills.

your heaters wont be on all the time either , in fact if you have a warm house they will hardly be on at all

    salt water

dont collect it anywhere near a river mouth or a harbour perhaps out carters would be your best bet
  14. i would be inclined to find out what sort it is first make sure its not toxic. as for plants well if you have bell frogs i would think twice about putting in delicate plants particuarly if they are expensive as the frogs trample them a bit when after food

    Wavebox?

ive heard they can be rough on tanks you could get the same effect from a cheap dc pump on its own , no box and a timer that can time in 1/10s of a second
  16. he made them out to be terrifying monsters with "toxic blood" have seen 8ft ones in lake rotoiti which was one of the places he went to and apparently where the story of the diver surfacing so fast he got the bends after seeing a big one. also i used to work with the guy who after drink driving got pinned in his car in a river , had one leg so badly mauled by eels he had to have it amputated so thats not just an urban legend  the guy on the show sort of made out that the saltwater ones were a different species to freshwater ones which is not the case ive seen massive long fins caught on commercial fishing vessels too
  17. +1 they never seem to come with enough media though
  18. i tend to buy 300w also unless its for a really small tank and then id get a 50w rather than a 25w even if the tank is only 6 litres :happy1:
  19. these guys have egg crate its about $30 +gst a sheet http://www.potters.co.nz/
  20. it is as important as a marine tank will have high oxygen needs and live rock produces nitrogen gas which will need to be dissapated however a good skimmer and circulation pumps will help out a lot with oxygen exchange so its not too much of a consideration as long long as its stocked accordingly to the surface area. perhaps a more important consideration is depth for light penetration i.e a tall tank may look good but will need higher powered lighting to reach near the bottom with useful PAR
  21. ive never seen large sheets of cork bark for sale here in nz small ones ive seen at model and hobby shops , id love to find someat a reasonable price one day
  22. the jebo uses a top filter what i did with mine was drill more holes around the bottom of the filter so that the current from it slowed down and was less like a spray bar
  23. $10 clamp desk lamps plus energy saver bulbs?
