  1. What about brichardi? They would go happily in that size tank?
  2. Try this breeding cave. http://thefishcave.com.au/caves_area/diy_caves.html I made one (without the glass bottom) and they were breeding within weeks.

    Snail eaters

Dwarf chain loaches would be best in a 3ft tank. Get a group of them and they will be happy I got a couple to go in my ten gallon tank as it was over run with snails. Now about a month later I havn't seen one for weeks Skunk loaches get a bit aggro for my liking

    Breeding killies

What substrate do you use in a breeding tank, I've heard you use little to none as it makes another place for the killies to spawn? Also what filtration should I use if I bred killies? The tank I would breed them in is a 22L AquaOne AR126 and most people know the build in hood filter sort of thing. Would this create to much water movement for the killies? If so how would I combat this? Thanks
  5. Animates are alright... They have a pretty wide selection of fish, it's just that they may be more expensive than other places.

    New Tank

WOW That tank is BE-A-utiful!
  7. Usually do all my fish shopping in HFF Albany. I've been once or twice to HFF Mt. Roskill and it was good also. Bird Barns a good shop too. Bought a couple of fish from them and they are nice healthy fish, but like I said I've got most of my equipment and fish from HFF. Pupuke Aquarium centre looks good so that the next shop on my places to go.

  10. hahahaha poor car
  11. I agree with Afrikan, just feed at separate ends. If all doesn't work "throw" the pellet or flake or whatever really hard into the aquarium so it gets to the bottom quicker
  12. This is kind of off topic but I was reading through NZ's latest issue out of AAM (Australian Aquarium Magazine) and it had an article in the New Zealand features section about Giant Kokopu in the Aquarium. The article was written by David Cooper and I found it was a pretty good read. It explains how to keep them in the aquarium e.g. water hardness, pH and temperature. It also says that Giant Kokopu have been exported in Canada to be assessed as ornamental fish. If all goes well, sometime during 2008 large quantities of the captive-bred kokopu would be exported. Is exporting large amounts of native fish better compared to just keeping a few in the home aquaria? lol it also mentions Charles Mitchell so thats what made me think of it

    Killie tank

haha I was just reading an article that said something like when your killifish spawn you remove the eggs and store for around three months and then rehydrate them and you will have fry hatched and swimming in 24 hours. Is that how the pro's do it?

Well if i could breed in a 6 gallon tank that would be good or if it is too small I would be happy having one or two nice looking Killies in it

    Killie tank

Hey, I'm clearing out a 6 gallon tank (Aqua One AR-126) and I was hoping to house killies in it. Any recommendations about stocking the tank (what type of killies for a beginner at killie keeping and how many), how the tank should look (plants, substrate and decorations) and what the water conditions should be for them would be much accepted. Thanks all, Enzo
  16. haha they look awesome. Before I should even think of getting a seahorse of any kind I should start up a saltwater tank lol
  17. I think Stella's doing an awesome job at housing the New Zealand natives (better than anything I could probably do  ) and I look forward to reading her book
  18. You can keep Short-finned eels right? What size tank would they be able to be kept in if they were young, only about 15-25cm long? I heard they live for a long time so it would take a while to grow I'm guessing. Would a 15-25cm one be able to live in a 2ft tank?

    Loach ID

definately Chain Loach..... cool lil fish just have to make sure you keep them in groups or they will be sad
  20. I tried to do a head count of all the fry today and I found that there are 40+ of them. I'm gonna have my hands full caring for them all until they are ready to be sold It's funny, you see some really pale almost albino ones in the batch while others are common coloured.
  21. yeah i know of a couple of people that used to work in the fish department mainly at a Jansens store. They quit because the manager was re-organising the store and a lot of the fish tanks and accessories were being downsized while the other pets accessories were taking their place.
  22. I mainly go to Hollywood, both Albany and Mt Roskill and they are great. Haven't been to Pupuke but it sounds good. Jansens/Animates are basically everywhere but I find in some stores the staff don't know much about fish but mainly about the cats and dogs etc... one time i went to the silverdale animates branch and there were 3 dead fish in a tank and they were all going mouldy
  23. Hey, nice tank. It looks really cool. I've got a question, I was wondering how do you clean a planted tank? I know it sounds stupid but wouldn't you rip up the plants when you were cleaning the gravel or sand?
