  1. hahaha lol. it is pretty true, they do breed like rabbits lol but i reckon they're awsome so yeah
  2. Hey cam, thanks. sorry i can't say i know what triggered them to breed, but I have read that a 50% water change can do the job
  3. hey everybody! woke up today and walked over to my tank to see lots of bristlenose fry everywhere! i bought the pair about a month ago at the lps for i think $15-20 each. They were in different tanks so i was taking a leap of faith hoping that they would be a good breeding pair....and they are! Only thing I'm nervous about is sucking up the fry in the siphon when cleaning tank :-? anyone have any suggestions about keeping the fry healthy and what not? Cheers
  4. the truth is, if you do catch some of the new zealand freshwater shrimp and try to acclimatise them to a tropical water climate they will likely die way earlier than they would if you just kept them in a coldwater tank. my advice would be to just keep them in a coldwater tank, but what the heck, you could give acclimatising them a go
  5. lol yeah. i didnt knw about unticking those boxes so thanks repto
  6. hi guys and no repto, am i supposed to? are there actually any guidelines about it?! but thanks cam for putting it up.

    will BN use cave

when i drop the courgette into the tank it usually lands near the entrance to the cave and I should have said before that, he doesnt come out to feed but when i see him he rushes to the entrance but then rushes just as fast back inside... possibly to try and scare of the female who rushes to the food as soon as it lands?
  8. argg why wont it work!!!!?????

lol i got my bristlenoses to breed in a cut in half terracotta pot. im not 100% sure they have eggs in their as i cant see in but the male's in the cave all the time, only emerging once in a while to feed. this has been going on for about 2 weeks so I hope soon the fry will come out
  11. about 2 years I got food poisoning from burger kings, It had moldy lettuce burger fuel's awsome, especially the bastard but it sucks cos there isn't one near me
  12. Heir, you never told us which one tasted better
  13. I've made a pretty cool cave for my bristlenose. All you need is a 9cm Terracotta pot, a saw of type (hacksaw), acetic cure silicon and a silicon gun. Cut the pot length ways down the middle trying to keep the line as straight as possible, glue the large open ends together, leave to dry for about 3 days and your set to go. I may not hav explained it very well so heres a website about it... http://thefishcave.com.au/caves_area/diy_caves.html its really cool and my bristlenoses love it. note: I didn't use glass because I didn't have any but it works just as fine
  14. hey um just want to ask if anyone has had luck in breeding the little crabs and shrimp? cheers

    Hey all

Hey everybody! Im Enzo, I join FNZAS a couple of months ago now but never got around to posting something in the Welcome section. So...Hi! :bounce:
  20. Hi all, I was wondering if any native fish and invertebrate keepers could inform me about the Native Freshwater Shrimp (Paratya curvirostris). I know there have been many threads about the Native Shrimp but none could tell me how big they get, what foods they are being fed and what coldwater (not necessarily native) fish they could live with with out the shrimps being snacked on. Are there any good spots around West Auckland I could visit and get some of from? Please not to far out of West Auckland because im only 14 and would take some persuasion to get my mum to drive me all around Auckland in search of some:lol: A couple of nights ago, I went to a creek on my property with my spotlight to try and see what life I have in my creek and found only an eel with its head stuck in a bunch of weeds I have a small tank that I could put them in if I convert from tropical to coldwater ( It used to house a Koura (before the tank was turned tropical)until he passed away )... Its a 6 gallon so how many could live happily in there?
  21. heres a link to an article about the iPond. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2007/12/ ... 24984.html when you see it... its just not cool. (sorry if the link doesn't work but you can copy and paste if not )
